Grand Prix gurus please

aight guys, i have tried two times at club gp to get some help and nobody gave me any answers...i have a friend that bought 20 inch wheels for his grand prix (20x8.5 with 255/35/20) and they fit on the car no problem, but the slightest pothole and it sounds like his back strut is gonna go thru his trunk lid. He claims that he has talked to people, including the local performance shops, and was told that he could use those tires without rubbing at all. I dont have to much experience with grand prix'
s so i was hoping a guru on this site could help me out without just telling me to change the tire size because thats the last thing he wants to do

thanks in advance

You've got two options:

1) Block up the rear springs which is the completely ghetto and unsafe solution. DO NOT DO THIS!

2) Change the tire size to 245/35-20 (1/4" shorter) or 235/35-20 (1/2" Shorter).

The reason why noone on CGP told you what you wanted to hear is because this is a stupid question with an obvious answer. All the local people and "performance" shops your friend talked to appearently don't have a clue when it comes to W-bodies. Tell your friend to suck it up and buy tires of the proper size and sell his current ones before he puts the fender through the tread.

use a baseball bat....... put it between the tire and beginning of the wheelwell..... then have a person or two sit in the trunk and drive the car slowly forward?reverse till it folds the inner lip up and out of the way....... but be careful on how much pressure is applied so it isn't rolled too far

I don't recommend this. Custom shops can roll a fender for around $100 which is a lot cheaper than replacing a fender if you f--- it up. I will be taking my car to jersey in the spring to roll my front fenders because I have an occasional rub.

the only problem is that the 20's are not what is causing the rubbing, it is the tire size and it could still have that with 18's when you put a 255 tire on a GP....

besides..... 20's on a GP are not nearly as out of place as they are on a GA

i agree, there are a few GPs ive seen on 20s and they dont look bad at all depending on the wheel, the 04+ GPs have a larger overall look to them so they can definitely pull off 20s

20's look great on grand prix's... i'd go with nothing small/bigger on them. there is a few around here that look great.
