want a cheap (money wise) setup...

I'm looking to add just a little more bass in the trunk. I'm not trying to enter any competitions or put on a concert for the town. I basically want one or two 10" subs and an amp. I'm keeping the stock head unit since it already has the mp3. What would you guys suggest for an amp and / or speakers. I know the amp is the biggest thing. I'm looking to spend about $400 or less on this. I don't have a circuit city, best buy, or any type of those stores locally either, so internet deals would probably be good, but if the deal is worth it, I'd drive two hours.

the amp is a hard choice with out knowing what or how many subs u are gunna run cuz the ohm load on the sub and the rms watts will tell what kinda amp u can run.

I was looking at some MTX 10" woofers (MTX ROAD THUNDER RT10-44). Those are the ones on partsexpress.com (thanks for the link).

http://www.cartoys.com/Default.cfm/p...nder_Subwoofer That site has some specs on them. I would probably get two of them. Now I just need suggestions on an amp (still open to suggestions on woofers as well).

mmmm...those subs aren't horrible, but for the cost of two entry level mtx subs, why wouldn't you just go with a single sub that handles more power and is better quality altogether? If having 2 subs is necessary for you, that's your own thing, but it's too common of a misconception that 2 always hit harder than one. I would recommend taking a look at a single 10" 5500 or 7500 mtx sub. You can tell just by the construction quality of the 5500 or 7500 that they are much better subs than the road thunder series. You could get a 7500 for right around the $180-200 range, and they do put out very good quality sound. The 5500's are just as good, with slightly less pep to them.

i would get a pair of boston g2's 10". you can get them off ebay for like $88 a peice. they retail for $200. my friend has a g2 12" and it sounds d*mn good. if your going for just loud then boston isnt the brand you want. they can get loud, but not as loud as other drivers. there more for sound quality, and they are awesome! two other great things about them is there only 300watts rms, so you wont need a huge expensive amp. and they only need 0.5 cubes per sub. so your going to still have quite a bit of trunk space. here is a link:

http://cgi.ebay.com/BOSTON-ACOUSTICS...QQcmdZViewItem

then get like a kicker 600x2. thats what i would do.

I have an Infinity 10.1d powered by a Alpine M350 amp. It's pretty. :-D

But really, the whole setup costs near $500, but with eBaying you can get it all for less. I got all mine for around $350.

im tellin you, the alpine type E subwoofers in my opinion are the best budget woofer on the market, i would compare them to some $200 woofers from a couple years back, seriously, 2 of those with little power hit, i suggest getting 2 of those, in a 1.2-1.5 cubic foot sealed box, 200w RMS would push them real good,
i know you could get all that for your $400 price range, let me look some **** up ill be back

here would be an amazing sounding setup for little money
Kenwood 8152 class D subwoofer amp, 550w RMS $155
http://www.ikesound.com/product-product_id/2895

(my buddy odered an amp from ikesound.com, he recieved it in 2 days, and saved over $100, i dont shop online for warrantee reasons, but if you want to get the stuff, and for almost cost, online is the way to go

ok and for the subs, heres a packaged deal, buy 2 for $130 through crutchfield--2 type E 10"s
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-IXdk4po...0&I=500SWE1042

(2) 10" sub box, $60.00---@1.5 cubic foot
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-IXdk4po...0&I=044QLH10D7

now were at $340, plus some shipping get you a $20 amp kit from wal-mart, and you got one hell of a system for very little money, thats the best dollar per watt value i've ever seen on an amp, and the 550 watts is certified, not some BS number, plus the type e subs are so efficent, if you wanted less power they will still perform well, but i would suggest at least that much power so you can satisfy your urge to bump it pretty good

hope that helps

not to be a d*ck but, you should really hear this stuff before you buy it. i have stressed this before. we go throw all the brands in the world at you, and without you hearing the stuff it does you no good. now personally i hate alpine, and think all of there stuff is very overated. very. but again that is just me. now obviously other people disagree with me, but its hard to form your own opinion without hearing it.

alpine got sound quality manufactorer of the year, and i stand behind that, im not even running alpine i have all eclipse, you must have had a bad experiance due to a bad install or woofer box it sounds like to me
the reason i suggested the type e is because its very versital as far as sub enclosures go, most subs need the perfect box built to reach the subs ful potentail, the type e can go in almost anything and have the smoothest read on a graph, and listening to them is the seller, so crisp and clear, and for the money, its just crazy if you ask me

i did have a bad experiance. well more then one. and its not just subs to me its every alpine speaker i have ever heard. every time i listen to an alpine no matter what other speaker is hooked up next to it, no matter price, the other speaker has alaways sounded better. not even there high end stuff sounded that "clear" and great. i dont know maybe i am so critical of them cause everyone just loves them. or maybe its because my boston system just blows them away. whatever the reason i have never liked them.

but you cant argue with listen before you buy.

I have a 12" MTX 7500...its an amazing sub, I would highly reccomend it. (you want a ten though) It is just as loud as my one friends two eclipse 12's, and louder then my other friends eclipse 12's (different series eclipses). MTX is a good company IMO.

Edit: I like alpine type e's, but my friend blew one after two weeks, with a sony amp. (One you can pick up at wal*mart)

It's true, everyone's ears are different...you should really hear what you're buying first.

If I was recommending a set-up, I would say this:
Two of: http://cgi.ebay.com/Elemental-Design...QQcmdZViewItem
And a
http://cgi.ebay.com/Elemental-Design...QQcmdZViewItem

That'll put you at $395 shipped and will sound amazing. I've been an Elemental Designs fan for a while. If you want clear clear bass and very quality stuff, they're the company to go with. Two of those 10's would sound clear and decently loud. The reason they're on the cheaper side is because you're not paying for the name like you are with Alpine, Infinity, MTX, JL or the like.

this topic can be argued to death you really need to listen for yourself

for under $400 I also recommend checking out an alpine amp and sub. I got an M500 amp a few years back for around $260 and you can pick up a decent 12" sub for around $100-150. I will attest to the build quality of the amp, its held up for 3+ years so far with no problems.

True, but thre is also a happy medium IMO. Somewhere where everyone can say, "hey that doesnt sound half bad...kinda like it". Know what I'm saying?

Edit: Dont ask me what sub/amp setup it is though,

You should check into the Rockford Fosgate stuff if your only looking to spend $400. You can get 2 fosgate p1 10" 8 ohms in a box (wire it down to 4ohms) and a 600 watt mono block amp for 320+tax. Thats not even internet deals thats out of my shop in Toledo. I'm sure you can get it under $320 on the internet. Oh ya and if you buy one of rockfords amp kits you get a 2 year warranty on the amp. Boston and alpine stuff are great product but if your trying to keep your stock head unit and not spend alot of money on an amp to power the subs rockford would be the way to go. The amp has a high level input option so you don't have to spend money on a line output converter so that will save you 25 bucks.

Rockford makes good stuff...I'm a little concerned about there amps right now, I fryed the P3002 series (go figure, 2 months after the warranty expires) and the P5002 I have now is acting a little funny. However when they work, they work amazing!

Oh yeah, I used to have all rockford...I had the P1 in a Q-Logic bandpass box, with the rockford P3002 amp pushing it. Good bang for your buck...bumped pretty good, although a lot of people frown upon bandpass.
