Deep Thoughts Welcome

My wife & I are gonna get a new vehicle this weekend and we've narrowed it down to 2. I've got a good idea which I want, but its primarily up to my wife, as this will essentially be her car. I've got good points and bad points on both cars. Just thought I'd see what you guys think:

2005 Chevy Trailblazer LS;
4wd....automatic....17k miles....in practically perfect shape....4.2 V6....tow package....etc.

2006 Ford Escape XLS;
4wd....stick shift....117 miles....obviously in perfect shape since its brand new....4 cylinder....etc.

Both vehicles are exactly $19,995. We're thinking of calling both dealerships tomorrow and asking if they can best each other and seeing if they can get us into them at $18k, including tax and liscense crap. If one can do it and the other can't, that'll narrow it down for us.

I'm partial to the Trailblazer cuz I've always been more of a GM fan, I prefer the bigger vehicle, it has more power, plus I like the way it looks better.

The Escape is appealing too cuz it'd be cheaper on insurance, fuel, maintainance, etc.

I am not going to put my opinion in here as far as what to buy, but I can say that my girlfriend recently purchased an Escape and loves it. I like it to an extent, but I still prefer a digger vehicle. She got the V6 AWD automatic transmission tho. Its great on gas, but I belueve its a 16 Gallon tank, so it feels like it costs more to fuel up then her grand am. Her insurance is also cheaper then the grand ams is, and when your 20 yrs old going to college, that was a big factor for her.

Might want to double check on that.

The Escape offers either a front-wheel drive system or an available Intelligent Four-Wheel Drive System*.
A drive system that uses brains for brawn, Intelligent 4WD automatically monitors each wheel 200 times per second and diverts power to the wheels with the most traction.

* Not available on the Escape XLS Manual

I think both would suit your needs, however the tb is probably the nicer of the 2 with a few more options

4.2L? I thought they where 4.3L?

Ussually trucks and SUV's are cheaper on insurance than cars, at least for me.

Id say TrailBlazer. If your focusing on mpg, get a hybrid escape. A stick shift suv just dosent sound fun at all.

At first I liked the Ford Escape, however, my wife's cousin died in a crash in an Escape, he was only 27 and had a baby boy and a new wife.

There have been some saftey issues and recalls with this vehicle. You might want to resarch it a little. His family is still in the process of suing Ford since he would have been alive had all the saftey equipment worked properly. I wouldn't come anywhere near the Ford Escape.

I'd go for the safer Trailblazer regardless of the fuel maintenance etc....

How about instead of saying they are junk, and have problems, say what the problem is. I couldnt find much of anything as far as safety recalls go, other then just 1 thing which would have not caused your wifes cousins death. You just hate Ford, so thats why your saying it. And ANYONE in ANY vehicle can die from a crash, so stop making it out to be Fords fault here.

I didn't say they were junk, I said the saftey systems did not work.

If you step on the brakes in a new car, and the brakes fail and you die as a result, it is 100% the car MFG fault.

Seat belts were an issue (don't know all the details) and the drivers side door popped open in the accident.

It is Ford's fault since the saftey equipment did not function.

"The most recent safety recall of the Escape came in April this year when nearly 322,000 SUVs from the 2001, 2002 and 2003 model years were recalled because engine control modules for the 3-liter V6 needed to be reprogrammed to prevent possible stalling.

In addition, the 2001 Escape was the subject of four other safety recalls, ranging from faulty cruise control on 1,193 vehicles to potential front safety belt problems in 132,243 SUVs."

I can't find all saftey issues, I don't have time.

Not 100% true. Many factors can cause a new cars brakes to fail. How do we know it didnt go offroading and pinched or screwed up some brake lines? I am not saying this is what happened, but you are saying that if it happens, its the companies fault. And the seat belts was oriiginally 110,000 TOTAL models, in a volunteery recall, where only 1 person had a minor injury. And the stalling wouldnt cause someone to die. I am sorry.

Dude....give it the f*ck up. I swear you'd marry ford if you could. And if there was more than one ford, you'd become a mormon so you could marry them all.

Anyways - My girlfriend has a trailblazer and I do like it a lot. Makes me reminisce of the Tahoe I used to drive.

Hey, go **** yourself. Hows that ? How about my friend who died in a Trailblazer because it rolled over. I guess he shouldnt buy a GM because of that. I am pointing out the fact of what he said was very stupid. To say that 1 person died due to a reason which he gives NO details of is asinine. He cant even say WHAT failed, other then safety issues.
