Thumbs down Horsepower in the G6 Convertible GTP

It has less horsepower than the G6 GTP coupe or sedan !

http://www.gmcanada.com/english/vehi.../gpg6_opti.jsp

G6 convertible GTP:
227 hp @ 6000 rpm
235 lb-ft @ 3000 rpm

G6 GTP coupe or sedan:
240 hp @ 6000 rpm
241 lb-ft @ 4600 rpm

Why does the G6 convertible GTP version have less Horespower & Torque ?

& why does GM Canada & Pontiac.com have different rpm #'s for max torque ?

fishhunter911 and my father, and I were talking about this the weekend before last. We had a good laugh making fun of more GM idiocy.

That's wierd, esp. because of the added weight...

I bet he means since they added weight one would think they would up the horsepower/torque.

Just another reason why the G6 sucks!

A convertible weighs more, so it's wierd that they would offer it with less power.

The extra bracing underneath the car changes the exhaust route. There's your loss. Still, its 2 HP more than a Solara convertible and 27 up on the Sebring 'vert.

Honestly, would you expect anything else from a POS like the G6 anyway??!! Keith can testify to this...

Isn't it standard procedure for the convertible versions of cars to be slightly less muscular than the hard tops? I was always under the assumption that the lack of a rigid passenger compartment meant that if it did have the same power as the hard tops then it would likely end up twisting the frame slightly over years of use. As was mentioned above, they have to add alot more framework to the underside of the car to keep that from happening and keeping the engine the same or slightly less would mean less framework is needed than if they were to drop a monster engine in there. Ever notice that the convertible versions of Mustangs and Camaros were always cheaper than the more powerful models of the same car?

Personally, I would much rather have a stronger car with a sunroof than a convertible top. Then again, I grew up in Iowa where you only get to drive a convertible for about 4-5 months. I suppose someone living in Florida would get much more use out of a soft top than I'm used to.

What? This is a shock.

They have changed all the styling across the line, brought the Trans Am and Camaro name back on a new platform similar to the current GTO, priced it at 25 thousand for the V8, completley changed their pricing across the board right? Wait... nope?

OK so then things are normal. No suprise.

Thats too bad...I think that the 240hp would have been perfect for it....in reality most people who buy the convertible version wont give a toss about hp...but even so, its not a light car so the power difference will be felt for sure. An aftermarket catback and CAI will be needed for sure.

True, but we're talking about a car with little power output. A car that really has a slight concern about the frame twisting is the Monaro. That is why only a handful of dealerships sold the GTO with the factory sunroof.

True, but they will laugh to the point of needing medical attention when they look at the sticker price and not even get in the car to test drive and notice that it has no power.

has anyone else heard about the lacking in dyno numbers on the supposed 240hp version? I wonder if they're covering they're own asses because everyones getting less-than impressive numbers from the coupe and sedans.

^ I've actually heard that some GTP owners find the engine to be underrated if anything. I've got nothing to back that up though.

Actually the price on the convertble isnt bad for the class its in, the solara v6 is 30k and sebring is around 29k most convertibles are around this price range 28-30k...I dont see the market for the GTP convertible though most people that buy a drop top arent looking for performance I predict GM will axe the GTP vert in about 2 years and just offer the GT version
