Car Audio Competitions
Does anyone here compete in Car Audio Competitions?
My brother competes in IASCA Sound Quality. I've been going to shows with him for the last few years and recently decided to compete myself. I am currently having my system redone (with the help of some friends!). I will be competing in the Rookie class this year and my first show will be Steel Valley Regional next month. Just wondering if anyone here competes and which organizations/classes they compete in. Last edited by Holtzz; 08-17-2006 at 07:08 PM. |

I'm a regular on one of the car audio forums that gets frequented by a few competitors. Keith Turner is a pretty hot topic these days and I've been hearing people mention a "green grand am" that he has been doing. You're very lucky to have his expertise. With him doing your install I'm sure you'll have one hell of a nice sounding setup.
I know a lot of competitors keep things pretty secret, but would you mind giving a run down of your setup/installation? |

Which forum are you on? I frequent EliteCarAudio and CarSound, but rarely post. I'll try and post a run down of the car with some pictures later tonight.

I have always wanted to compete in a sq competition but rarely have the time. Between having a g/f and running my own car audio store I don't really have to much time for myself.
I am confident i would place in a great position since my setup has been custom made for sq but until i compete I will never know. I am very interested in pics of your setup! Please post them up when you get time |

I lurk on carsound occasionally but I mainly post on Elite.
Thanks for the run down. There is so many negative points to the GA's interior that I'm just curious what Keith would do to combat them. Have you been into car audio before? If so, what's your history. |

http://community.webshots.com/photo/...81416094Kxpsak Something like that would never work for me, you must have skinny legs if they don't block 90% of the sound coming out of those things! Have you considered kick panel pods for your mids/tweeters? I think Aaron may have a set for sale. ![]() |

x2, what are you using for tweets to keep up with the dual midbass? I've seen a lot of regular local shops using dual 6.5" sets in the doors...but you don't see many SQ installs with them unless it's strictly midbass.
jperryss, , the kickpanels are still in. They're staying in til I'm done with my doors, which is 2nd on my list right now. My IPOD showed up yesterday and I'm busy getting it interfaced into the drz9255. Right now it looks like I'll be picking up the harmon kardon drive+play and making the IPOD mount into the bottom side of the center console cover. I have it hooked up through the 3.5mm jack right now and it sounds like arse... |

Aaron, good luck with the iPod. That Drive+Play looks pretty cool. Hopefully it'll sound better for you than it does with the 3.5 jack you're using now.
My fiberglass arrived today! Ended up getting 10^yds and a gallon of resin for $62 shipped. Not too shabby, but now I really gotta think about how I want to do the kicks. Time to run to ECA for help, LOL. |

My car is a Green 1999 Grand Am SE 4 Door. I will be parked in the IASCA area, which I think will be near the garages.

jperryss,
Check out Steve Head's(audionutz) tutorial on ECA. Have you seen the tutorial section on ECA? Look up by the search button. He goes over it step by step. Tons of good info. Also search for Rick's(raamatt/ramaudio) posts on ECA and diyma for the 'secret reciepe'. Some of the ID guys have posted about it as well, but Rick outlines it very well. Start off aiming where he recommends and work from there. A lot of people swear by it. Good luck with the glass! Get good gloves and be prepared to itch like no other. ![]() Holtzz, Can't wait for the pics! Good luck at finals! Now for my million and one questions.... ![]() Are the dynaudio md150's or mw150's? I know about the mw, but not the md. Is it a dome mid? If it's a cone mid, did Keith vent your kicks into the A pillars or cut into the impact zone of the car? I've been hearing about the turner audio stuff. Very vague info though...I assume on purpose. What size speaker is the midbass? I've very interested in seeing the door panels when you're done. Are you mounting the 15's IB? Sorry for all the questions, just curiousity....especially if you're using dome mids, as that is something I've been thinking about doing myself after I get done with my (neverending) doors. |

Ya i have considered kick panels but the ones that are prefab are cheaply made the encloser rattles unless you modify it. I prefer to make my own enclosers to make sure everything is on axis. Ya my door pods do take up leg room but my legs do not block the speakers. I plan on making new door panels for the car this winter. I just havn't got around to it this summer. I also run a Diamond d3 3 1/2 in my center air vent for dolby digital 5.1 with a kenwood center channel amp driving it. |

It could get you some good advertisement if you did. There wasn't any IASCA sq events up here this year.
