This is all great news....I remember us talking a few months back that the 3.6 would be a great engine for the car....well here it is! The additional cars getting hydraulic as opposed to electric steering is nice...18" wheels, 6 speed automatix, plus more power and VVT with the base model V6s. I didnt see the 4 cyl changin at all on there but the 2.4 VVT Ecotec with 166 hp or whatever is a nice base engine. I wish they would have done this originally(and they could have) but oh well, better late than never.

Does anyone know if the 3.6L is good for boost? It seems to me that with 250ish stock hp it'd be really easy to break 300 with even conservative forced induction of some sort. This thing might have the potential to crush mustang V8s with some massaging.

The downside is that you can't get a manual transmission with the 3.6 GTP. It is only an option for the "Sport Package" GT with the 3900. But as a whole, the car will compete much better now that it has a modern engine and transmission avalible, although 4 engine options with just 28 HP seperating 3 V6's is kind of strange. The 3.6 should be putting out more than 265 HP to compete with the Camry and Altima.

Our grand ams with moderate boost can smoke mustang gt's, well as long as the mustang is stock.

That blows. I have the same engine, but I only have 240hp and 225tq.

Oh welll. BTW the Saturn Aura or whatever is supposed to have the same engine/transmission.

I think that the GXP will prob. make like 270 give or take...dunno the cost BUT I think that the 3900 should go away...nice enough but the 3.6 makes it a bit un-needed in every sense of the term. I would do just the 2.4 Ecotec, the 3.5 VVT and the 3.6 DOHC.

Having the new manual tranny is awesome too....even if its not avail with every model. If they do that and add the GXP Coupe...they will have a decent lineup of G6s. The soon to be arriving new CTS should get a nice new 300hp 6 Iwould assume AND maybe the 3.6 will be the new base motor....that will be awesome!

^^ Just with the 3500 and the 4 banger. Its typical GM to go 80% towards making a truly competitive car. The GTP will compete, the GT and base models will still be outclassed by just about everyone. Pricing on the GTP will be key.

The great news is that the DOHC 3.6 is avail...the 3.5 has more power....a 6 speed automatic is available..HPS is standard on GT models. How are these not good things?

All in all though, the BEST situation would have been to have the 2.4 Ecotec rated at the 177 like it is in the Solstice(BTW its current rating in the G6 out-muscles the Camry 4cyl)..either way some extra HP from that. Then, have the 3.6 standard in all V6 models with the 6 speed automatic....and rated at 252 hp.
For the G6 GTP Coupe and Sedan, have the 3.6 tuned, exhausted and with a K&N and have it rated at 275 hp. Polished wheels and red calipers set it off very simply. Both should be avail. with either 6 speed auto or 6 speed manual. This way the GTP pkg. would be a little functional but simple and cosmetic.

I'd like to quote myself from about a month ago, my prediction was almost right

http://www.grandamgt.com/forum/showp...4&postcount=17

Why cant GM offer manual trans in every model? Imports do it but for some reason american manufacturers feel there isnt a need
