Exclamation Mounting Sub Box

hey, i was wondering if anyone could give me a couple tips or pics on how they went about mounting their sub box in their trunk. I NEED mine to get mounted, its soo annoying having the box slide around the trunk when i accelerate, or take turns. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

easiest way i found was to do a false floor setup, remove the spare tire cover and use plywood to make a copy of the floor layout, cover it with box carpet and you are in business. The charcoal box carpet matches the factory trunk carpet really well and can add a custom touch as well to your install. Here's a pic of mine, check out my sounddomain page for more pics of my setup

might be kinds hard for me to do that though, because i made a custom fiberglass box and it is such a PITA to put in and out of me trunk if i add plywood to the bottem it might be impossible. ill have to take a look at it when i get home.

wait...you made a fiberglass box but no way of securing it? thats kinda wierd. go to my sounddomain to see my fiberglass box. mine replaced the spare tire, but you could have also made one to go into the side pockets.

I don't mean attaching it to the bottom, I meant filling in around it. My box rests on the floor of the trunk and the false floor is in front of it, pinning it to the seat backs. That way, if I do need to get to the spare, i just pull the seats down and move the box forward into the passenger compartment. I debated designing a box that could move like that, but when I got a flat I was damn glad I did, otherwise getting that spare out would have been a nightmare.

you might be able to get away with heavy duty velcro, or some people have made retaining straps that pull around the box and fasten it to two bolts on the seat. much cheaper and easier to do it like this.

yah dave, i was origionally going to fiberglass my whole trunk for a complete custom look, but i don't have a garage so letting the fiber glass dry with my trunk open would have made me a little hesitent.
stangdude, i see what your saying now. i thought you were talking about bolting the sub box to the ply wood then putting it in. This was sound soo much better/easier. Where did you get your Box carpet? and about how much did it cost you to do you trunk?

Thanks

p.s. AJ i doubt i would be able to pull off the velcro, my sub box is very large and with the subs in it it weighs quite a bit.

got the carpet from www.partsexpress.com they are alright if you are ordering a few parts, but kinda rape you on shipping for one item. the carpet ran ~$4.00/yard. the part number I used was 260-765 dark charcoal color with no backing, it stretches really easy. I think 2 yards got my whole trunk. And yea the velcro will not work too well, I used velcro on a small box housing just one 12" in my first car and it still slid all over

thanks for all the help guys, i think i made up my mind and am just gonna go with the ply wood bottom. But i still need to buy another amp (From what everyone is telling me, because i have a mono V12 amp (Alpine #MRD-M605) 2 bridge running 2 12' type R's) and a capacator. so i might as well buy this stuff before i mount this box.

you'd be surprised about the velcro. there's some industrial grade stuff out there that is AMAZINGLY strong. you just have to search for it.

Try using these to keep your box in place. Ive used these for two different boxes, a smaller sealed box and my current large ported box. I never have to worry about when i turn hard or anything because they will never move and inch. Ive never had a problem since ive installed these. You can get them at any hardware store. I forget what they are called but there some type of corner braces. Just put one on each corner of your box and use the screws to secure them to the floor and your set!

I've just carpeted the bottoms of my boxes and I've never had a problem with them moving. The box carpet and the stock trunk carpet kind of act like velcro together. It doesn't move. What I'm gonna do for my next project is throw on some one inch rubber feet to the bottom of a single 12 box and see if it moves any. My thinking is that the rubber feet will work like a spiking system does for a home theater sub. Less vibration absorbtion into the floor equals crisper bass response. I doubt if it will make any extreme difference, but it's worth a shot. As far as bracing, just carpet should work fine. But if you're not satisfied then just go to the hardware store and get some L brackets to secure it.

I've got my amp velcroed onto my sub box, and I have it wedged in my trunk in the back. It's a perfect fit.
