Boom Cars... lol

... i hope you all get as much of a kick out of this as i did... Part of me understands the concern, but people will be people and this seems to take it to the extreme...

Bunch of old people complaining...haha! I have a sealed box w/ a 10" MTX sub pushing 300w rms and by no means am I "waking the neighborhood", but I do see some of their points i.e. dumb asses at 2AM driving down the street "pounding" the 2 15's in the back. Oh well, can't make everyone happy.
If it's too loud, your too old............

I hear that i have two 12" Kicker CVRs pushin 400 rms and a kicker 1000w class D amp. I'm interesting in seeing what my SPL is, but haven't gotten around to getting a meter yet. I can respect after a certain hour in certain neighborhoods people want their quiet but still... common now we all gotta do what we gotta do

That site is rediculous.

Just couldn't help myself....

Quote:
I was linked to your site through the Car Audio section of a car site. I find myself at a bit of a loss on what to say here, as my feelings toward your group are contradictory, to say the least.

You see, I agree with you for the most part. I believe that noise pollution is a serious problem in our society, one that needs to be fixed.

However, after reading through your site, I believe your methods are lacking in effectiveness, your information frequently and often drasticly innaccurate, and your "articles" typically inflamatory.

While I would apply the above critisism to several portions of your .org, I find your piece on "boom cars" to be laughably innaccurate, poorly researched, baseless, and inflammatory in particular. While the "author" is certainly entitled to their point of view and has the right to share it, they - and by association, your group - look really stupid to the informed. The average car sound enthusiast finds the SPL nuts to be annoying as well, and attempts to criminalize anyone with a serious sound system is a flawed method of operation. The author goes to a bit of trouble to link to supposedly damaging ads and campaigns - yet makes no mention whatsoever about "safe sound" campaigns sponsored my many of the same groups and companies he or she so blatantly defames.

As with firearms, sportscars, or even household cleaning chemicals, products are subject to misuse by the end user. Please direct your ire towards those people who make life hard on the rest of us, rather than by dragging responsible citizens down with the bad apples and defaming legitmate companies and hobbies.

not bad, but i found only 2 mistakes

much better than the one i sent them too, its a shame they don't paste their hatemail

btw, yes i like loud booming music but at the same time when it's after 8 or 9pm i turn it down, and i always turn it down when in residential neighborhoods just as a common courtesy. its a shame im the one of the few that practices courtesy for others.

You could fiind only two mistakes? Did you read anything on the site?

Silly stuff, like specs on the Jackhammer, were way off. Observations about power levels of audio systems were also retardedly specific (and as such, wrong) when there was no need to be - all they had to say was "massive subwoofer systems" or "hugely powerfull audio systems". As an author, I appreciate it when people don't try to sound like they know what they're talking about when they don't in order to try to add weight to an argument or POV. When stating an opinion, or a fact secondary to a technical one, to simply state it as such.

Then there are the flagrantly opinionated and baseless statements with NOTHING to support them at all. Stating that law enforcement officials are invited to sound offs in order to get them to buy systems or influence them toward leniency in enforcing sound pollution laws? What a joke. Stating that certain ads that they dislike are anti sicial and "flying under the radar" just because they're run in magazines with which these people are unfamiliar with. Making references to MERA, SEMA, and other groups that make it painfully clear that these people have NO F'ing CLUE what those groups are, and what's more, that they made no effort (other than to decipher the acronyms) to find out.

Lastly, the fact that this group advocates new laws and stricter law enforcement as a method to deal with their complaints indicates a flair for complaining, rather than any intention of working to make a difference. They could work WITH community groups and even audio retailers and manufacturers to find middle ground. They could - heaven forbid! - go to sound offs and talk to the people there! They would probably find out that very few - if any - of the people at the competition are the ones' they are mad at, since most of us are like ajaxus and believe in cranking it responsibly.

I could go on forever on this one....

I HATE people like this. These are the people that have slowly degraded America into what it is now and worse, what we're heading for. Souind extreme? Nah - it's all too true when you follow the thought. It's the bitch and moan but don't do anything crowd that gets sensless laws passed, that allows insurance companies to start running things, who sue at the drop of a hat and require more and more laws to back them who've made it so the average American cares more about whether or not the guy next door is following the rules than whether they are doing anything to improve the world around them.

Yikes - this is going to be a REAL rant if I don't stop now....

Me and the other guys at the Rockford forum found this site about a year ago:

www.lowertheboom.org

This guy is a nut case. On top of it, he was coming onto our forums and telling us that it was www.lowertheboom.(com or net i forgot) which is a porn site. All I can say is this guy needs to worry more about his own life then trying to make car audio illegal.

There are fanatics on both sides of the fence. I don't see much difference between those who boom down the street and those who protest it.

If someone goes down my neighborhood booming late at night, I want them ticketed to. It's common courtesy.

I'm sure some of them do, or at least often. All it takes is ONE person booming while driving through their neighborhood every day to make EVERYONE else in the neighborhood suffer.

I thought you were refering to the errors in info that I mentioned in my letter. I try to be careful with spelling and grammar, but when I'm typing fast with my 2 y/o son jumping on me while I'm about it, I get sloppier than I've been in the past.

The lowertheboom guy is at least rational. If you read through most ofthat site in depth, the claims (other than the insane crime connection numbers) are mostly substantiated. There are exceptions, he does take things too far, but he's not the nutcase that many of these people are, and he (indeed, even teh nutcases) does have a point.

It's the intense focus on "boom cars" that make me roll my eyes and shake my head. Airport noise, motorcycles, construction noise, emergancy sirens, and large trucks are all consistant sources of annoying, distracting, and frustrating noise in my neighborhood. I live in an area where I hear loud stereos as much as anybody. That means that on average, I get annyed by a boomer 2-3 times a day.

Airplanes - 5-10 per HOUR, 24 hours a day
Overly loud and really bothersome A/C condenser unit turning on/off on my roof - 3-5 times per hour, 24 hours a day
Loud motorcycles - 4-5 per day, 1-2 per night
emergancy vehicle sirens - 3-4 per day, 1-2 per night
dump trucks, garbage trucks, street sweepers, etc - 2-3 per day, 1-2 per night
boom cars - 1-2 per day, 1-2 per night

These noises all constitutes things at sound levels capable of waking me or my son, of interfering with conversations or activities. Boom cars are the LEAST of them.

Oddly enough, also the easiest to bitch about, I suppose....

The organizers of that site come across as the type of people that support and show of for every home owners association meeting. You know...the groups in the suburbs that try and pass 'bylaws' that prohibit you from working and your car or painting your garage door anything but white.

Personally I find people who have such an alarmist, one-sided point of view completely close minded and impossible to reason with. Therefore there's no point in even commenting, you're not going to change their mind.

It like that saying goes, "Never argue with an idiot, they'll just bring you down to their level and beat you with experience"

what i would like to know is how exactly a car driving down your street prevents you from enjoying dinner on your deck, getting work done inside your house, stop you from listening to your own music and so on...it literally is a matter of 5-10 seconds at most that you can actually hear the bass unless your house is right beside a redlight which still only would consume about 30 seconds or so of your life (although i could see why that would be annoying)

i can see why people dont like it, but i dont understand how they can complain about it so much as to make a website and try to persuade local law enforcement and other peers in the neighborhood to take a stand during county meetings and so on...i mean, you want to say that loud music is linked to crime and violence and a to say that it reaches as far as murder and homicide seems ludicris to me. if you want to see what the link really is in these cases, i would look more into the drug/crime ring to find out the link between the two. this is a hobby for MOST people, including those that are into SPL and SQL competitions, so i wish they would take the time to realize that most are just doing it becuase it is something they love to do or enjoy to do, and not to just cause a problem daily and especially not to try to get into some chicks pants
