Best Sub Brands

What would you consider to be the best brand of subwoofer. I'm lookin to buy a pair of 10's and i dont want to spend more than about 200 bucks for the pair. So... for the price what do you think would be my best buy??

there's no real "best" sub... depends on what you need. SQ? SPL? SQL? but for SQL i'd say ADIRE AUDIO is the best, i'd definately check them out.. they are very hot this year..
Rockford is good for loud, but not the bets for sound quality...
Focal's are just plain good and expensive

Like he said, depends on what you call best. I've read the new Magnum D2 is one of the best SQ woofer to come out, but is lacking the low end.
Adire Audio
Elemental Designs
Image Dynamics
Resonant Engineering ( I hear theyre loud) will confirm in a month or two.
Audiomobile
Kenwood IMPP (WC-3504 or something) probably one of the best bang for you bucks for good SQ and some descent SPL. Can be had for $60/piece at ikesound.com

SQ : Sound Quality : how well your speakers reproduce the music the way it should really sound.
SPL : Sound Pressure Level : Measured in dB on how loud a car is. If you want a SPL car, you are going for a LOUD car, which might make it a one note wonder or some that have descent SQ
SQL : A mixture of both worlds. Trying to retain very good sound quailty while getting rather loud.

Well i'd definitely be going for SQL. Im a college student however, and money is always an issue . I have another question... Would i be better off to go with one more expensive 12" or two cheaper 10's ?? ....Geeze im asking alot of questions .. I would just like to know alot more about this stuff than i do.

heh..... if all parameters are kept the same, the 2 10's should be louder... quinton is right about all he listed, i highly agree with his choices (just forgot about them) Directed is good too
if money isnt your bestest friend, then u shouldnt be aiming for a reallyyyyy good system..... i had enough $, but it was my first, and i didn't really know what i wanted... bass bug bit me
now for my next one, i know what i want/need

just remember: if u plan on upgrading sooner or later, why not go big right now

If youre one a budget and want some SQL, I'd go with a Resonant Engineering HC 15.
They can be had for under $250 I believe. Make your own ported box and power it with an elemental nine.1 (coming out soon) It will cost under $300.

The HC will allow for very nice SPL and I've heard they sound rather well also.

My car recently had a 15" Audiomobile Evo-R and a JBL 1200.1 in a 2.6 cuft box tuned to 35 hz. It sounded very good and hit 149.3 at a local shop. The mic is said to be high by about 1-3 db.

I wish i could go big right now.... but getting the actual car that these subs will be in is top priority . In about two months i should be the proud owner of a 2000 ga gt.. silver of course. If all goes well and i find a second job, then i won't be as worried about sub prices. I just want to get some ideas. You guys have been alot of help so far... thanks alot.

It'd be hard to find a BAD sub these days, much less pick a 'best'.

JL rules when it comes to versatilitly and reliability, they never sound bad, and they're never not loud. That's why I recomend them so often.

Other than that, geez - like I said, their are entirely too many good subs out there these days. I like Treo Engineering a lot, the Resonant boys (made right here in sunny Las Vegas, NV) look to have some serious action goin' on, Morel has a 12" worthy of respect, Adire has always been an "underground" favorite, I dunno about Elemental, I believe they're just an offshoot company - but that doesn't mean they don't rock! Crystal gets rave reviews, Crossfire, Digital Designs.... I could exceed the post size limit just listing the decent less known brands, much less the big boys like MTX, Rockford Fosgate, and the like.

I just checked out CES last week. WAY too many subs. Find a comany that you're comfortable dealing with that had a good reputation, and call it good. For the record, I wanna know what kinda amp you'd be using before I give any hard advice on the subs.

I recommend checking out The new mtx line up. They just released a sub at ces dubbed the w7 killer and is half the price of a w7. I highly recommend checking out image dynamics. That is what we use at Sound-n-logic for all of our sq vehicles. With one of last years 12 inch idmax subs we hit a 142.2 slightly under powered. The 2003 image dynamics line up is even better this year. They released a new idmax(top of the line) this year and a new id(bottom of line) and will soon be releasing a new idq(middle). The new id is hitting like last years idq which are extremely impressive.

Count my vote for Adire. I've got a 12" Brahma on the way as we speak. As far as I'm concerned you can't go wrong with JL either (if you can afford it), and I've heard good things about Elemental as well.

well I'm talking to ya in IMs now.

1.05 cubes after displacement sealed.

With 500 watts running it @ 4 ohms to start, then wiring it 1300 watts @ 1 ohm with VERY conservative gains.

I have 2 10" Kicker in my trunk n it sounds amazing. Inside n outside. Reallllyyy clear n loud. Only dynamated my license plate too.
Combined w/ a 2 channel, 250ish watt amp (err can't remember which it is wtf ) n Sony Xplod HU, it sounds ridiculously good, considering I've done nothing else.
I got the box n amp as a package deal for about $400.
If I can do this friggin' image paste, this is a pic of my sub...

yes, that's purple neon. I thought it was a fun mod.
Just my .02
