G6 going RWD

I heard this rumor on another board. Has anyone else heard this? It had something to do with Pontiac being in Grand Am racing and they are going to use the G6 GXP in the GT class. The pic I saw looks like a G6-R. Here is the like to the article.

It obviously won't be on the current body style G6, but all Pontiac's are going to become RWD in the near future. So yes, it is very plausible that the next "G6" will be rwd.

I would look at the G6 a lot harder if it goes RWD in the next year or two. The easy of making power. What engine types do you think they will go with? Do you think GM will have the gul to put a V8 in it?

Doubt it- the market for the G6 is not really towards gearheads and hot rodders- that's what the GTO will be for... if it comes back that is (90% chance it will). If no GTO... then maybe a V8 G6...

I doubt it, they will probably leave the V8 for the Grand Prix.....

I would really like to see a new firebird though, build off the new camaro, now that would be sweet.

i think they are venturing into a dying market for performance cars...you dont see alot of profitable RWD performance cars anymore besides the mustang.

There isnt also a hole lot of choice, of WELL MADE rwd performance cars anymore.
Of course Im a huge fan of the 04-06 GTO, but besides that and Mustang.... there isnt much.

Why is everyone jumping on the AWD bandwagon...I'd rather have RWD I actually like what GM is doing making all pontiacs RWD. IMO there is no good reason to make a performance car AWD other than its better in snow and really its not b/c they come with summer performance tires so you still have to buy winter tires for it.

My guess would be that cars cost alot more than they used too. So way back when, (example) Billy Bob could afford to park his Camero / firebird / whatever that cost them $5K brand new, if that, and break out the big Chevy C-10 or Ford F-100 for winter. It was easier to afford mutiple cars back then. Now when your paying $30K+ for a performance car, most people can't afford a second vehicle for winter. So when spending that much money on a car, I want to drive it year round, and it had better perform well in all driving conditions. I see what your saying about true sports/fun cars being RWD, but that would limit the market to much, decreasing the profitability of these cars.

Where Im from in Pa, if you have a RWD car, your not going anywhere if its snowing, alot of roads dont even have winter maintainence.
