Differences in a 2000 and a 2004 3.4L
Thinking of putting a 3.4L 2004 motor, in to a 2000 3.4L. Are there any problems with doing this. Are they the same motor mounts, and everything else and if theres are problems what are they?

Only thing different is the PCM controls on the 04, and I imagine not much different at all. Mild tuning to improve efficiency (sp?) of the motor.
You'll be all good I imagine. Just need to get the PCM reflashed to match the VINs up. OUT

Is there any reason I could not use the 2000 PCM to run the 2004 engine ?
And I do have hptuner so I can do changes to the 2000 pcm as needed. If the only physical change to the externals is the pre cat O2 I can just swap that. Quote:

Your 2000 PCM should work just fine with the swapped over O2 sensor.

OK, got a 2003 motor on ebay for $450 plus $140 S/H , I highly recomend these guys for a motor ( lkq Online ) . The motor arrived in TX 5 days after paying for it and there was a weekend in there too.
The O2 pre cat was different as already mentioned , and we also bought a motor from a impala , so we had to swap motor mounts, cam chain cover and the water heater lines. The motor started right up with NO CSK , NO noise what so ever, the motor has alot more power. The CSK was so bad you could easily see the oval shapes on the bottoms of the cyclinders and you could see the rings easily on 3 cyclinders, as in the pistons did not fit the sleeves at all, what a lousy job by GM. Looks like the 3 bad pistons where running very rich due to lack of compression.

Read up on the yearly changes for the LA1. Though you may not have any issues...the newer 3400's have been improved. Better sealing, better bearings, better gaskets, coated pistons. It'll swap right in...but there are differences between yearly 3400's. I'm unsure but does the 2000 3400 have a different EGR then the 2004, or is it just the 99 that has the odd one?

Okay then...must have been the 99's that had the odd EGR.
