HD radio

Im looking for a new headunit, preferebly something i can use with my steering wheel controls (with the adapter of course). I want one with HD support that has a good display (bonus for a red display/buttons) and isnt cheap...i found a Duel, but i dont trust the off brands. Not to break the ~$250 range please.
Post up your findings!

Thanks,
Jeremy

Umm, no. Go to Crutchfield.com, search for HD Radio, and there's a link for 'all car stereos w/built-in HD Tuner'. They only have two. HD Radio isn't that big yet.

I have a feeling he was confusing HD with sat radio, but even then, only higher end radios are sat radio ready.

Depends, I got a XM Ready Pioneer several years ago when XM first came out, and the HU was only like $150 or so. Heh, funny thing is, when I bought my GA, the guy had put in a Pioneer HU that was like last year's model. So now I have the old HU in my closet and it's newer model in the car rofl

I'm still looking for something better, though, I have my eye on one that is like $300 (I think, may be less now) that a cowoker has, a Pioneer one that has a full EQ and a bunch of other things.

Anyways, GL

EDIT - Actually, I looked at the site above and I think it's the Pioneer Pioneer DEH-P7800MP

Only input I have- I recommend Pioneer. I have owned 4 different Pionner decks (deh1400 in 2 different cars, deh4800, deh6800) and they have all been top notch.

(I have the deh6800 in the GA right now[which is an older model, and might have changed now], and the only thing I could want more out of it is for the iPod text to be more descriptive.... it only shows the song number and time elapsed)

Not bad, I was never a real big fan of the CD insert being part of the faceplate though.

That's kinda what I was thinking too.

A lot of times too, the manufacturer makes you buy a separate unit to plug into the radio to get XM or Sirius. Problem is that the unit ends up being $75 or more, and you can only use it in the car (as opposed to a 'mobile' unit that can be moved from car to car or hooked up in the house).

I agree, it does look cheap. I dont think there are really any other choices out there. I just searched for a little while and didnt find anything except for the thing if you already have a kenwood head unit... http://www.kenwoodusa.com/products/L...k3=154&pr=2379

Jeremy- check online for stuff. I found that there is 2 versions of my deck, and the other version has changable lighting for both the buttons and backlight. As far as I can tell, its the version sold overseas, but still! Of course, I found out all this well after I installed my deck!

Good choice on the HD radio, i have a cheaper JVC i was given, but i love it. Make sure u get a headunit compatible with "Multi-casting" so you can change HD1 and HD2 on the same FM station. If you have a better antenna then I do it will sound amazing.

FM = CD quality
AM = FM now..

got any questions ask me, i'm family friends with one of the VP's in the automotive side.

Ugh i really should check this site more. I don't give a f what crutchfield says most radios now adays are HD radio "ready". Read my post I said HD radio "ready" meaning you can buy the add on HD box for that radio and wala you have HD radio. I wasn't confusing SAT radio with HD radio I run a car audio store for god sakes. Ugh newbs.

No need to get all pissy about it. I've never heard of 'HD ready' headunits but admittedly I haven't been following the whole HD radio movement too much.

Excellent response, BTW. Some people come here to help other people, some (like yourself) get all jollied up when they get the chance to tell someone they're wrong. If your arrogant 'newbs' comment is any representation of how you 'run' your car audio shop, I'm sure you provide excellent, friendly, and professional service.

EDIT: BTW, I'm done crapping in this poor guy's thread.
