G5 GT? when did this come out?

well, i thought i was seeing a cobalt SS.. but it turned out to be a pontiac G5 GT. it must be on the cobalt unibody as it has the same stance, but has the tradition pontiac grill and ohter differnt looks. but was passed by it and was like WTF! so, it was brand new had dealer plates on it. was small like the cobalt which i like.. i might have to go check this out.. anyone else seen or heard any news about this?

Really what Pontiac needs more than the Cobalt cone is the new Holden Astra compact. Saturn is getting it but Pontiac should first...anyone checked it out yet? It's very cool!

The VXR variant is the hottest hatch out there for the Astra based coupes:

The G5 is a badge engineered piece of crap and is a perfect example of how GM got the reputation it has now. There was no need for the car.

They originally weren't even going to bring it here, but it sold really well as the Pursuit in Canadadiadeh, so they decided to bring it over here. It's all about the bottom line, biggie.

My friend that owns a Cobalt SS tells me that his car is basically an Opel Astra with different body panels. I'm not sure how true that is though since my landlord's brother owns an Astra and they don't really look all that similar to me. That and his Astra is German specs so chances are it would leave the SS sucking exhaust fumes.

Personally, I'm not a fan of these little 2 door domestic ricers.

The reason the G5 is just a quick re-badge of the colbalt is because GM felt pontiac needed an Entry-level coupe to buyers in the dealership. It also lowers their starting price. I imagine if it becomes a big hit they'll restyle it to be less colbalt like. After all, the Saturn Ion is on the platform and you can barely tell!

What i thinks redicolous is that this is GM's "sport" division, and they don't have a version of the Supercharged SS for the G5! Pontiac should ALWAYS have the bigger motor imo

Now that is a cool little car. And the stock wheels... 19x8" with 235/35-19 tires... why can't they put something nice and low profile like that on the solctice/sky instead of the big ol' chunkers on there? And get rid of the fender gap while they're at it...

You don't know much about how they classify cars in the industry do ya? One of the pt cruisers is considered part of the "truck" division so that they can meet requirements for trucks meeting better fuel economy standards. You do what benefits you the most before what impresses the customer the most. The cash in your pocket and bank account come first for staying in business, and one good way is to meet government restrictions.

Not saying this is necessarily the case, but it is a very good possibility.

Well honestly I see nothing wrong with the G5 if they do it right, in which they aren't right now. Yeah right now the only thing that lines up with the rest of the lineup is the name! The only few differences between the colbalt and the G5 are the front and rear bumpers, and the red lighting in the dash for pontiac. Granted yeah it looks like a pontiac, its just when you park one next to a colbalt its pathetic!

However I do think the pontiac front end looks better on the Colbalt, than the standard front end. When I see a Cobalt I can't help but think "hey they brought back the corsica!" . Really the only good looking Colbalt is the Supercharged SS, the rest look like @$$ especially the sedan!

The G5 is nothing more then a quick Bottom line Money maker. Along with a Entry level Pontiac untill Pontiac is converted into all RWD. Only except tp see the G5 For 5 year's if that.

I have to disagree with the point on the G5 being nothing but a money maker. Traditionally GM has made very little, if any, money on their small and midsize cars. I'm not positive that this has changed yet.

I will agreed that it is a rebadged POS and one of the major reasons for it existing is to generate sales numbers.
