Any word on the Next Gen GTO/Firebird?

Any word on a new flagship sportscar for pontiac yet? Hopefully this time around it'll have a convertible/t-tops/sunroof option! GTO's were great but I would never buy one without a sunroof.

Why, did you hear something. It would definitly be a smart move on GMs half to put a pontiac muscle car into production asap.
A trans-am would be SWEET

Nope, they stopped in 2006 but they are going to start up again in 2008 with the new camaro, oh and the model I saw was a convertable

Pontiac is bringing the Commodore over for the G8 correct...I assume this will fill in the V8 gap until the either a Bird or GTO comes back in 09

The GTO will come back before a Firebird does- I'd say there is an 80% chance the Goat will be back in 09/10.

excuse my lack of old school car knowledge but did a GTO and trans am ever sell at the same time? they seem like fairly similar cars so i dont know if GM would do it?

Not similiar at all the trans am is raw muscle, GTO is muscle + class. Unless you've driven a GTO the build quality is much better than a trans am ever was. I would even say dont bring back the firebird at all the camaro is good enough and keep the GTO that will fill the gap for the crowd that wants lots of power but some class too.

I read on autoblog or leftlanenews maybe a week ago that Pontiac is going to get a Camaro based car, a year or two after the Camaro is released. The article said it's NOT going to be named firebird or trans am and they're still kicking around whether or not it should be GTO or something entirely new.

Nah it'll be the GTO. It won't be called the firebird/trans am because it doesn't match pontiac's naming scheme.

Either way I don't really care what they call it, pontiac needs a real sports car! Granted well I guess the solstice is, but still they need a muscle car to complete the lineup!

I agree with you- it has to have a sunroof. I'd have a current GTO if I could have gotten one with an OEM sunroof.

Yup. I wouldn't have been happy with it if it didnt have one, and I refuse to have one put in aftermarket, so I bought something else.

Wish I could say the same, thats one of the small things keeping me from owning a GTO, the BIG thing is...well I work at lowes making $10.45/hr
