So lack of sunroof made you jump from GTO to Solora? That seems like a big jump for just a sunroof option. Doesnt the Solara compete with the Monte Carlo ?

Well, I am NOT a fan of Chevy. The only GM brand that I really like is Pontiac. I probably wouldn't buy any of GM's other brands. Yes, the sunroof was a major deciding factor- I refuse to destroy the structural integrity of the roof by having one "cut" in, thats why I bought a car with an OEM sunroof. As for the Solara, the fit and finish of the car is amazing. The Solara has many more options than the GTO did for about the same price. (price my Pontiac dealer would have sold me a GTO for VS what Toyota sold me my Solara for was ~$800 in price difference). I do know that my next car WILL be an Infiniti G35 Coupe.

I guess the 400 horsepower LS2 is what does it for most people, not one more window...

Thats cool. I checked out many more things than horsepower when I bought my car. I ended up purchasing what I thought I would be most happy with. Thats why there are many different auto manufacturers in the world that make a variety of cars.

See the thing is I abuse my sunroof! If its a nice day I open it. Back when I used to smoke, I'd open it! To me what good is all that power if you can't feel the wind hittin you?

I'm glad to see at the auto show they showed off a Camaro Convertible, since It's unlikely we'll see T-tops on another GM vehicle.

actually, the latest GTO was more luxury because it was a holden, not because its supposed to be muscle + class. the trans am (which the last one was fully redesigned in 94) was an older model, and thus not as nice.

a trans am is a sports car, the original GTO was a mix between a muscle car and a coupe sedan, the le mans. the le mans was a two door ordinary car, and they dropped a big motor in it, and called it a GTO.

the trans am/firebird has always been a rebadged camaro. theyd be dumb to make a GTO based on the new camaro.

I guarentee the new GTO will be based off the new camaro, at least the platform. Granted, now if they do it right, it'll bare no resemblence what-so-ever to the camaro, but then again it's GM.

If and when the GTO comes back, it will definitely be off the same platform as the Camaro... what would be dumb is if GM made an entirely new platform for a V8 RWD car that already existed (which would never happen).

PS- the Camaro will be made as a convertible, it isnt just a concept. I don't know if that other thread about it was saying it was a concept or not, but it isn't. It's the real deal.

uh, GTO -no sunroof- vs. Solara -sunroof-. The Solara has a 3.3-liter 225-horsepower V6. The GTO has a 6-liter, 400-horsepower LS2 V8 in it. Now, me, i'll take horsepower over a sunroof.

If only I had the money I'd get a GTO. The Solara looks too much like a "girly" car to me, whereas the GTO is tougher looking.

I would assume that if GM makes a Pontiac variant of the Camaro, it would be called a Firebird.

If I recall correctly, the new Gran Prix (G8??) is supposed to share the platform with the Holden Commodore. Would GM take the G8, make it a 2 door and call it a GTO? I hope not.

I honestly doubt that there would be enough demand for both a Firebird and a GTO. Based on tradiation they would both be 2 door, RWD w/ a V8 (Most likely an LS2). So as you say, why would they develop another RWD platform? I doubt they'd make a Pontiac based off the Corvette platform. That's one sacred cow that GM isn't likely to sacrifice.

Well most of the rumors point towards a 2 door GTO based off Zeta Platform, which would be a camaro sister, however rumor has it the Monte Carlo and the Impala will be on this platform too, so you probably won't be able to tell many similarities between the Camaro and GTO.

If they do decide to bring the firebird back at a later date, maybe they outta style a solstice like one, and do a V-8 Conversion for it. That might be kinda interesting... you'd basically have a Pontiac "vette"

I said it would be silly for GM to make another platform, I was not advocating them doing so (because they never would, it just doesnt work that way). No one said anything about a corvette platform...that would be entirely too expensive since the Vette frames are hydroformed, which is why they cost so much. Like I said, if the GTO comes back, it will be on the Camaro platform since that was designed to be a V8 2 door RWD vehicle.
