Well i'm in a slight pickle.
Went to 2 Chevy dealers and 2 Jeep dealers. Went looking for either a Jeep Cherokee Laredo or Limited (depending on price) and a TBSS to see what they were goin for. This is my verdict. Out of the two Jeep dealers: -both only gave me $17k for my GTO (-$5000 from paying off...and I refuse to roll over sh*t) -one dealer quoted me $289 on a Laredo X (fully loaded) or $309 for a Limited (hemi/loaded without nav) -the Jeep will get SLIGHTLY better gas mileage than the TBSS and only takes regular 87 octane which is only $1.79 in MI right now. Summer time I can only imagine what it'll go up to. Out of the two Chevy dealers: -the first dealer told me the famous "last month had better incentives..shoulda done it then" line. I told them "Sorry I don't have a time machine, great job on losing the sale" and walked out -the second dealer offered me $20k for the GTO (-$2000 that I can easily come out of pocket to clear debt) -unfortunately the payment is $365 (only $35 cheaper than my GTO) on a TBSS AWD without no goodies (which I don't even want anyhow, i'm putting my own radio and I don't care for a sunroof or leather) Jeep MPG: Laredo 17/21, Limited 14/19 (21 gal tank) TBSS MPG: 15/19 (22 gal tank - premium) Those are the stats, tell me what you guys think. I'm going to try two more Jeep dealers and if I can't get my trade in and my monthly lower, I'm goin for the TBSS. The gas is roughly $5-$10 more at each fill up than i'm doing now, the maintenance is the same as the GTO, and if I can bargain the payment down to what I'd like, i'd still be saving $80 a month over my GTO's payment. Also, each one of these quotes for leases were at 27 months, 12,000 miles a year, $600-$700 down out of pocket as initial first mo. payment and taxes. Discuss. Sorry to hijack the thread Jon figured it would save the clutter in the forums.

DCX is giving the HEMI away for free.
I would take a TBSS over a Limted Grand Cherokee. People over at the TBSS forums are saying out they are getting them for like 24k. |

Well i'm not getting one THAT cheap. The car still ends up being like just over $30k as a lease price. If I wanted to purchase one, they're goin for like $29k with incentives and employee discount.
If it's possible, then show me the way!

Holy threadwnd...
Im not one to talk about practicality ha, but ... why the TBSS? Tight ride yes, but whats your commute like? That mileage is going to make you want to rip your testicles off, put them in a blender with some icecream and have a gonad shake. Seriously, thats going to hurt, right in the pants. I guess I just never understood the "Fast Truck" idea. If I was to get a fast truck it would be an old as hell Typhoon, or a later model Lightning, as they get into the 12s with only a few grand in mods. Also I thought the Hemi got better mileage because of DoD or whatever.

I tend to agree, SUV's were cool 5 years ago... Thats why they are giving them away, DC can't sell GC's for crap and the TB is dead after next year. I'd suck it up and keep the GTO. Gas prices are not going to stay this low, OPEC is already bitching about the price slide...

Test drove the CX-7 again. Completely different after the 1st test drive. 1st test drive is always emphasized with the "I'm in a different, new car" excitement. 2nd drive was like "Meh...I guess."
Plus the CX-7 still requires premium, and the owners are getting 12-13mpg on avg because of excessive boost action always goin on to haul those 4000lbs. I honestly don't like the TBSS for power, I like it for looks only. Can't stand the normal TB, and in this case it'll be fun to drive too. My commute is a normal one I suppose and the thing is it's not much less MPG than my GTO now. HWY is alot sh*ttier than the GTO obviously for that 6th gear. I'm postin up on the trailvoy boards askin how ppl have survived winter so far with 2WD. Because that may be the only way to get a cheaper deal and save on gas too. Otherwise i've been told you simply don't buy this truck for MPG. The Cherokee's DoD only guarantee's it the hwy mileage. Which means if you're at zero grade with 10% throttle action, the car basically shuts down half way. The minute you increase throttle, you're back in v8 mode. My aunt has a Limited and she swears she's constantly filling up. But she's also driving a hell of a lot more often then I am. I just drive to work, friends houses and gf's house. All within 20/30 miles, besides the occasional drive to see the Pistons in which case we use my gf's cavalier. Main reason for SUV was snow and practicality for helping my family with my sister. I now realize that the TBSS completely contradicts my wanting of a cheaper, simpler ride. I can't help it, it's the "car guy" in me that keeps luring me back to the thoughts of summer and fun times. Then when the weather goes sour, i'll still be able to cruise with no fear. Unlike my white-knuckled street adventures in the GTO right now. I refuse to spend the money on winter tires when I know i'm out of this thing within this month or the next. And as it stands, my steering rack is leaking again and somewhere i'm leaking gasoline in my car too . I'm not hangin on to it for shiz.

My God....all these people talkin about mileage blah blah blah. I was all worried when buying the GTO. "OMG the mileage is terrible! You have to use premium!"
Well I fill up as often as I did as my GA when I had the headers and premium? Well thats $4 extra per fill up. I can see if you have a 50 mile commute to work... but if thats not the case... cmon already. As for the TBSS - (as w/ the SRT8) - I definitely wouldnt mind having the practicality of an SUV w/ enough balls to keep up w/ "fast" cars. Edit: Im sorry...Beat* "fast" cars.

Greg, the Michigan dealers are hurtin big time, each Chevy dealer I went to had 30+ TBSS's on the lot. Not as many AWD's but like I said, they had tons.
Red Tag prices were at $29k for a AWD without leather or Bose. I don't commute far at all, but I just worry about summer time, when the Gov't decides to screw us with no lube and raise the prices of gas to $5+, I'm going to cry.. Now the debate is, 2WD vs AWD in winter. My dad has a 2WD has zero problems. I would imagine the TBSS would be okay in winter with a 2WD but it also has summer tires. Atleast with the summer tires the truck does well with AWD. Kse, the gas is very similar to my GTO though as well the maintenance. Just the HWY mileage i'm used to with my GTO pushin like 24mpg easy in 6th, and the TBSS is 17 hwy AWD, 19 hwy 2WD.

why not a forester turbo? same engine as the STI with a smaller turbo and different tune.. with a lil bit of work you can get power and mileage, hell, ive heard reports of 20+ city at 300+hp and the best part is that a lot of subie parts swap over so you can use some of the STI stuff to make it perform better

Yea I know. Most of my driving is city driving so it wouldnt even be a problem for me. Actually I wouldnt think twice about it either way. Thats just me though.

Meh okay deal didn't go through, another guy is talkin decent but it's bothering me a little.
$338 a month $1500 down 10,000 miles a year 39 months 2WD TBSS. Not feelin it at all. I'd rather it be AWD with 12,000 a year and 36 months. We'll see what I can work out on Monday.
