Aftermarket PCM results
Does anyone have before and after results from any "generic" tuned PCM? Any with mods? Im looking to see what kind of gains there are for stock, near stock, and modded engines vs tuning.

well i have had bad epx with the shifting, but i have my times from the stock pcm and the DHP pcm 1.0 with a gen tune, and borla, 180* tstat, and dr speed stage 2 wai. they are from the same day, and the first pass or 2 was from the stock pcm, so my car had warmed up but i ran alot faster, ill post numbers if you wanna c, cuz like u said last time u need glasses to really see the slips
ill also have times with the PT also, when i get time and the track will open in march, so the only upgrades from what i had earlier is ss headers and my built trans, but i can take runs before i fine tune, and runs after with this setup to keep the control(my car) the same

Id really like some dyno results if possible, or if we can get an idea from the track times (but track times can be decieving with various conditions). Guess I will take what I can get:P

well all my conditions for the pcm results are back to back within about 10 mins or so of each other, just long enough for me to change the pcm, and cool the engine down a little and get back in line, but ill c if i can get a dyno to pull on soon

10 min isnt enought time to drive the car and have the pcm relearn everythingi have proof of that we went to the track about 15 min from marks right after my tune i ran a few 15.8s a few weeks later after id had done some driving i went back to the track and was in the 15.4s. i dont have any dyno runs on the car so that butt dyno and track slips are my best guage. i do know that lonewolf ran his car at the track a while back with the same tune from mark along with an intake and cutout and was in the 15.2s i believe so thats the best i have to gauge on

Ok, well I gain 8 hp with a much better powerband improvement in the 91-93 3.4 DOHC cars. They weigh about 3300-3400 pounds. They get .2-.3 better. Gearing differences there too so its hard to make a direct comparison. I get the same type results out of 3.1 j bodies that get 5-6 hp at the wheels but the powerband is the same, just higher.
So thats the MP Racing one and the DHP version 1.0 right? What about 1.5 and MMS for a stock tune (or is everyone that has the MMS tune have the MMS stage 1 or 2 package?). Also I see its about 15.7 stock. 143ish hp at the wheels gives you a 15.7 range then. http://www.speedworldmotorplex.com/calc.htm Somewhere between 2800-3000 pounds seems believable. Anyone got a weight from a scale? This math deal is supposed to be with driver but its also using 18% drivetrain loss and we don't know what the exact loss is anyway. |

It may be a couple of months yet, but when the SC install is done, I will be dyno tuning my car with john from cartuning. If you want results from that let me know. Keep in mind this will be a far from stock car.
The only down side is I have no baseline dyno pulls, and no pulls with just a bolt on supercharger. I went with a 2.6" under drive pulley, deleted EGR system, and a few other supporting mods. Maybe this wont help you afterall. Let me know if it will.

Really looking at stock to near stock type setups right now. I know that with boost, your tuning vs untuned numbers would be huge in comparison.

i dynoed bone stock and then with the following mods:
short ram intake ported intake manifolds 2.25" exhaust DHP PCM 1.0 i gained 15whp (144 up to 159). key note, both times it was on the same dynojet. i dont remember the torque numbers off the top of my head but it was close to the same gain. hope this helps.

Before I got my MMS PCM in June 2006, I went to the drag strip and got a baseline test.
My 2 best times that Weekend were: 15.269 @ 89.11MPH with a 2.32 60ft ...and 15.298 @ 88.74MPH with a 2.30 60ft. The track condition was decent. Average stickyness...and it was COOOOOLD out. I installed my MMS PCM the following Thursday afternoon and was Immediatley dissapointed. I noticed no difference and E-Mailed Milzy right away. He told me to give the PCM time to learn. So I spent the next two days driving my car pretty hard. That weekend I went to the track. The track was a bit better traction wise but it was HOOOOOT out. Over 31 degrees celsius. My 2 best times were: 15.053 @ 91.48MPH with a 2.24 60ft 15.061 @ 93.05MPH with a 2.25 60ft My Mods were: MSD 8.5MM Wires Ported & Polished MAF CF Hood Dr. Speed Cold Air Box Magnaflow Muffler 2.5" in/ Dual 2.5" Out & the MMS PCM I was running the Stock Goodyear Eagle RS-A's and Half a Tank of Gas both times. Since then I added a 2.5" Cat back pipe and ran a 14.860@90.86mph on a cold sticky night at the track. Hope it helps.

To 14.907 by adding the DHP 1.0V. Pics and time slip on page 7 in my cardomain.

yes it is because i had the dhp pcm in and out of my car 3 times before then and i dont have to wait for the security relearn anymore, so yes it is about the amount of time it takes me...seriously

He's not talking about the security relearn time. Instead it takes at least 20-30 minutes of varied driving to get your PCM to relearn it's engine settings. The trans settings take even longer. Simply can't switch PCM's at the track and get accurate results from it. The PCM needs driving time to relearn its parameters.

well then i guess my pcm wasnt calibrated right when i ran about .6 secs faster i think, ill have to check my slips, but i didnt know about the relearn for the pcm would take that long. it ran just fine and could tell a big diff just from there. when i put the pcm in, i went back in line and ran again, i ran a total of 7 or 8 times, 1 or 2 times with the stock pcm and the rest with the dhp pcm, maybe if i gave it more time i could get more gains, but ill try that out next time

this is my dyno: http://www.ice8420.com/displayimage.php?album=28&pos=54
DHP PCM SLP exhaust, cutout before muffler open intake msd wires? Don't have a stock one unfortunately. As far as track times go, my 60' and 1000' were great w/ the PCM but sucked after that. I had a lot of false KR issues, up to 13 degrees, that I could never get worked out (powertunr / hptunersr was not out when my car was still modded). So.. at about hte top of second gear, it's like my car hit a brick wall

As far as my mods go my mms pcm was the only mod that I actually REALY noticed and loved. I remember when i went for the first drive after installing it; Shifted into 2nd at 6k and chirped the tires. Then after I shut it off to hear the fans still running...I was in love
![]() I went from a 15.4 to a 15.1 with my mms pcm and ported uim. And when I ran the 15.1 I had horrible launches and a FULL tank of gas.

.2 to .3, even with mods.
If you completely reset what the computer has learned, and then go down the track at WOT, you will have no real fueling corrections. You shouldn't have to drive 30 minutes to get the WOT performance differences figured out. We had a problem on the dyno with phil's car but that was probably due to the bad VE tables from DHP at the time. |
