You realize this is basically a Rebadged holden. These are really nice cars. Like others have mentioned, at the least, go to a dealer and sit in a GTO. Its not the low quality we are used to with GM. If its anything like the GTO on the inside, it will be worth the money. Much better fit and finish and more comfort, and just plain looks good.

Its like buying a new Saab that is still made in Sweden, they are totally different than anything GM usually makes, much nicer, and worth the money.

Im a fan of the new badge, looks sweet.

i'm not really a fan of changing the badge either, though the design still looks good.. maybe they would keep that desgin for the GXP models?

That's a sweet looking car. The whole package sounds awesome and I think it will do a ton for the Company's image.

You never sat in a GTO then its comparable in quality but doesnt have all the bells and whistles like nav, bluetooth, etc. Go test drive one you'll be surprised I was, early reports from reviewers are the G8 interior is even nicer than the GTO. This car was engineered in Australia so its basically a Holden.

Mirage and greg, you guys might be right in a way about the GTO. I have never sat nor drove one, but from what you guys say, its a superior car than what we are used to from GM.
I am being quite biased against Pontiac though b/c of what their designs and quality consist of, which is decent but when comparing to other cars in their class are not up to par.
But regardless, we'll see what the productioon model will look and drive like.
I know that it was said that this is the production model, but there is still enough time for GM to change things.
But, on its own, it is a nice looking car and definitly a step up for Pontiac.

I understand what your saying, but with this car, "PONTIAC" needs removed from the equation. Think of it as a Holden, a whole new car, its barely even a GM vehicle. Like you said we will have to wait and see when its released, but you will be surprised when you finally see one.

And to reiterate.... These are pictures of the production model. Obviously things will change, but only minor things. GM almost always puts gay wheels on the production version of its vehicles.

The stock GT is going to have 19's all around, just as an FYI, and the regular version will have 18's.

That may be the sizes, that are in the pics, but dont expect to see those wheels in the pics on the production car.... GM will gay them up.

I wasnt disputing size, just design.

pontiac G8 reveal video:

http://fastlane.gmblogs.com/archives...pontiac_g.html

they talk a bit about pontiacs future as well. also, if you watch the movie at the begining, about 25 seconds in, theres a G5 with a big spoiler. G5 gxp with SC eco or maybe even turbo eco?

Actually, they won't.

This G8 is supposed to be in our showrooms in about 6-7 months as a 2008 model. Lexus is due, by the end of the year, to have a new line (mimicking Cadillac's V-series and BMW's M-series) called the F-series, and that'll be an IS model with different ground effects and a supposed 400hp engine in it. Still, that'll cost well over $50k. Besides, when is Pontiac supposed to compete with Lexus & Infiniti anyways? Thats what Buick & Cadillac do.

Actually, its completely a GM vehicle.

Holden is just another division of GM, but in Australia. Holden was actually struggling so bad back in the 80's, that GM execs from the US had to go over there and save them. (far worse than GM or Ford nowadays)

It just so happens that Holden has recovered and done so well in the last 10 years and US-born cars have not, that basically GM is letting Australia do a lot of leg-work for them before bringing the cars over here.

In fact, Australia is where they're putting finalizing touches and testing production versions of the new Camaro, and God knows, the Camaro ain't no Aussie car.

You are correct that Holden is GM, I was just trying to get him to change his thinking about pontiac. Holden isnt a traditional GM company,, just like saab, it was aquired by GM, and therefore has different roots.

Those are the wheels you'll see...the GT will come stock with 18s and optional 19s as a "sport package"

no one is understanding you're looking at basically a production car

If it happens, IF, it would be the turbo eco. SC is dead i think.
GXP/RL Kappa cars make some decent numbers.

I think the delta based models will continue to use the 2.0 SC Ecotec through the end of their life cycle ('09 or '10), I haven't heard of any use of the turbo ECO in a FWD platform. I'm pretty sure there will be a G5 GXP for '08 or '09.

There is my next car as soon as the tC is done...2 years left.

GM is making huge progress especially with their interiors. I wouldn't have believed it until I sat in the new trucks at the NAIAS. Very nice. The G8 should be a sweet ride...and oh how I love a 6 speed with rear wheel drive!

So what really sold me is that Edmunds said that GM has kept Holdens interior. We all know how much of a step up the GTO was now only to sit in the G8. Too bad the car that was filming it was so damn loud couldnt hear the G8 at all.
