That's absurd that the car isn't totalled... taillight, headlamp, i'm sure some suspension tweaking, rear quarter, rear bumper, gas fill door, passenger door, headlamp, front fender, mirror, hood, paint prep, labor, something in the front brakes for sure, at least the rotor and pads, new wheels x2. There has to be over $5000 in damage there easily.

The car's still worth over 10k. Don't they total only if the car is unrepairable, or will cost more than the car's worth?

If the repairs cost more than 74% of the car's value, they'll total it. So if the car was worth 17grand, and they did 10grand of damage, it still wouldn't be totaled.

I bet they start to repair it and realize it's totalled. Happens all the time at Geico (where I work). Seems like way too much damage to repair.
