4T40/45 trans sheet

aparently it wont let me upload the .xls file for some reason, so if you want the sheet, just PM me and ill email it to you, or email me at john_ginter@hotmail.com and i can do it like that

OK here it is. I have been working on this for a while now. right now it is ONLY for the 4T40/45E. More apps like the 4T60e/65 will be available some time later this year. The problem is it is still a work in progress. I will be getting different, and hopefully better, pricing. when i do i will make sure to update the thread and tell everyone and also when i get new parts to anything like that, this forum will be the second to know. I am currently under R&D for more parts to the puzzle, like a trans cooler and other parts as the need arises. If you have any questions let me know, or feedback/input. also of course the spreadsheet is on MS Excel, so if you dont have it and word or wordperfect cant read it, then you are SOL for now. of course if u want me to use your trans, the price will be cheaper, but like i said before the pricing isnt set in stone, its just a guideline right now.

if you have anything bad to say like well i can get a rebuild for cheaper than that, well i dont really care if you can, if you can then why dont u. if you dont wanna spend the money, dont post on here tryin to bash me. if it is out of your price range, contact me and im sure i can work out something

turn around time is based ONLY on shipping and parts availability, i work on these things very quickly. i dont use any stock consumable parts except the stock plates and the stock filter and bands. i am working with a company to get the bands relined with other materials, such as the eagle red material, so when i get more info, i will add that to the sheet and update the thread. also the possibility of koleen steels and custom parts are in the work also. everything else i use for the rebuild is either better than stock or high performance. if you have any questions post of pm me

also when i get mine all back together and get it tested, i will update and post 1/4 numbers also and the like...also if i can get a dyno session, ill post that too

i will also be offering Kolene treatment for the stock steels and pressure plates, but i dont know the pricing yet. if you want to know what kolene does go to www.kolene.com basically it adds to the overall life of the plates by helping them absorb more abuse, but they do not make an overall performance gain in gripping power. if you want that ask me about custom frictions and bands with kevlar on them.

ok ill do a break down of the pricing from highest to lowest so u can ask questions about that. costs that i post do not include shipping, but when i ordered a 4t45 from indiana, the trans plus the TC shipping freight on a pallet was about $100, so it should be about that. ill have to get it on a pallet and see how much one would weigh i guess

least price is $582 with reg build, but includes superior billet accumulator pistons and raybestos blue plate clutches. the lsd option changes the price to $1236 but that price includes the shipping for sending the diff from me to EP and from EP to me, so its 599 for the diff itself, like $15 for shipping from him to me and about $40 from me for shipping and boxing it. stall converters are about $180 with $30 core charge included. if you let me have your core then those are about it for what i will prob see the most of, but there are alot of other peices that are upgraded/better that can be included. like poly trans mount, new backing plates, cryo treating, even a 3.91 ratio FDR, those are all in the sheet plus i will be adding more, such as kolene treatment and maybe a custom direct fit trans cooler setup. also i might be offering special custom clutches and bands with eagle red material/blue plate material/ or even maybe kevlar for the bands and clutches. The price goes up from there, and i am working through other warehouses to get better prices, so when i get those, ill let yall know

Does that $582 include the trans?

Personally, I have very little knowledge of transmissions beyond their basic components. I think it would be a great idea to make "stages" of transmissions or rate them up to a certain HP number. It would simplify things quite a bit for the uninformed buyer. However, Id imagine most of your customers will be the guys making big hp numbers and have already done all of the research on what they need. Just a suggestion. Good job with helping progress the grand am aftermarket!

thanks, and the $582 would be if i used YOUR trans, not if i used one that i got, but it wouldnt be much more. you could also use this as a better option to a regular rebuild.

also on the wholy HP #s and dyno thing, first off no one around here has an engine dyno that will hook up to the trans that i know of. im trying to track one down and it would take FOREVER to get all the different HP and TQ ratings for every differnt part, but what i would do is use mine for comparison. mine will have also all of the mods done for it, minus the 3.91 fdr, although i do have the set on my kitchen table, maybe ill run that and see what it does. i do have a higher stall though, and when i get the trans pressure tested, then ill post up and if i can find a dyno then ill post up ACTUAL results. i cannot make fake claims or talk through my @$$ about them, because i have to prove them in real life first. there is so much more to the transmission than just putting power from an engine on a stand behind it, but that would prove it for alot of people i guess. when i get more info ill let everyone know

why is that bad, i mean shipping is only about $130 or $140 max, and what i posted is just the tip of the iceberg, if you want the full sheet, just give me ur email and you can see most of it right now

So, when you get figures for HP and TQ depending on parts you should definetly email me, by the end of summer I'll be looking into tranny work... once I get my turbo setup finished. I'm hoping for anywhere between 250 HP and 350... torque on the other hand I have no clue what I'll be looking at.

well the only way i can really do that is post up what i have on mine and then post 1/4mi numbers and hp tq #s off mine, otherwise im still looking for a tranny shop to dyno it, but they will def be pressure tested

ok so i have been asked to make packages to inform and to make buying them easier, also on the sheet you will notice 3 different letters on the left column, R, N, and O. those mean R is for recommended replacement, N for necessary replacement, and O for Optional pieces that are more performance oriented.

so in detail, if it has an N it will HAVE to be replaced. I will only NOT replace it if you expressly tell me not to, but they are all wear items, so there shouldnt be any need for you to tell me dont replace it.

R is what is sometimes a wear item, or just an upgraded part that will increase the power capacity/wear characteristics/durability of the parts and transmission as a whole.

O is for speed parts, high performance parts that make the trans better than regular rebuild and will increase performance well over stock for gear ratio, stall speed, and output/capacity of power.

in short the $582 is for the trans that you would provide me. if i have to find a trans, i will include the cost of the trans in the price. obviously i might accept your old trans as a core, but i do not have a set core fee, and really i am not making enough off the build to offer much for the core. the way some of them are around here, being a seasonal car, then maybe you can afford to have it laying up for a month or so. the other price i showed was for the basic build plus the LSD from EP. those will prob be the only time consuming part of the build. the other would prob be cryo treatment, which is $300 plus shipping. most of the parts would be treated to increase capacity and overall durability.

lsd plus basic build and backing plates(which are wear items) is about 1293

if you want the electrical components replaced either as a precaution or because you know they are going bad, then that would be $239 on top of any package for brand new genuine gm sensors and solenoids. so obviously it gets kind of confusing just talking about it, it is alot easier to just look at the sheet and it will explain itself

Also

ok so if you are also having problems with the soft 1-2 shift or anything like that, GM has fixed the problem somewhat with the mid year 02 and later models 4t45/40 transmissions. now the fix for the problem is kind of expensive, about $260, and includes the new valve, spacer plate, but also includes all the plates and gaskets and seals, but ill have to look to see which ones, but if you get an 02 or newer trans, this problem is eliminated, plus the newer 02 valve body has other better passages and eliminated bores to help shifting. the valve itself is about $30, so i will add that to the sheet if you are using an 01 or earlier trans. just let me know.

but basically if you get an 02-04 trans you are mostly set up on the updates and better parts.

Very interesting, my tranny is giving me some trouble so I might have to look you up in the future, especially if Milzy doesn't come out with his option soon.
