and also his is preorder for the 65 swap at 3500, im guessing that doesnt include freight...not alot, but not a little. i know of one guy trying to prove itll work right now, but it is a serious hassle and hack job, but to each their own. i like the way the 4t45 is and its alot lighter when filled, i know i have worked on both of them

How is Blackjack's 4T65HD swap a hack job?

http://nbodypower.com/nbodypower/viewtopic.php?p=13#13

It is only a hassle because he is one of the first people to go about swapping in the 4T65 tranny. There are a few things that I see I personally wouldn't want on my car, such as the solid mount on the drivers side.....but then again it isn't finished yet.

It is interesting that the GTP axle works on one side, if only one axle needs to be custom made that saves alot of money over two custom axles.

I don't think tuning will be as hard as people make it out to be, the 3400 Impala, Grand Prix, and GM minivans all use the 4t65e trannys. Worst case swap the harness and make changes to the .bin file to reflect the new tranny.

i hope it is that easy, because the 4t65 uses alot of diff sensors than the 4t45, and they put out diff signals, but if he can make it work, then thats great, he will prob be the first that doesnt have a huge budget like MMS or the like

yah but if you dont have a dock, then they charge extra for residential, i had mine shipped to the college, i have the actual bill and it was right at $94 for a business, it was $30 more for residential is what the shipping company told me. that trans had alot of fluid still left in it, so i gauge mine to be a little less, but i dont know unless i get actual weight and a shipping zip code

Or it means you need to drive to the freight company's dock and pick it up... (as I have done with Roadway).

Personally, I just wouldn't want the extra weight and the cost of the swap if a 45E can be rebuilt to handle the power. Plus you have to ask how did he determine the correct position for the trans? An axle fits on one side and not the other, but is the weight of the trans centered in the sub-frame or is it shifted to one side? If it was just put in there the easiest way it would fit without any measuring or weighing it's very possible it's one side heavy.

The other thing is the electronics. His idea of just matching up the pin-outs etc definitely will not work. It will need to be done anyway, and he will need complete wiring diagrams for both cars to make sure he has the same number of wires for each sensor going to the pcm, and to make sure they are connected properly (voltage, reference, etc). He will still need a different program to make it work properly since the 65E is a totally different trans with different gear ratio's etc. Probably a bin file from one of those cars mentioned that come with 3400's and 4T65E's. The only questions then will be, will that program work properly with the bcm (good possibility it will), and will it work with the gauge cluster (much less likely) ?

It just seems like more hassles and more questionable than it's worth to me. I'd rather attempt the manual swap than that if I was going to change anything.

alot of variables, i hope he gets it though...and about the dock, i had no idea who they were shipping through, so i didnt know where i would pick it up, and it wouldnt fit in the back of my car on the pallet, but i could have taken it off and shoved it in i guess. just another way someone can save money on the shipping though
