Pontiac starting to look good

So at first I was skeptical but now with the new G8 pontiac's lineup is looking a lot better than it did a couple years ago when they were all just simple rebadges of Chevys. Granted yeah both divisions still share a lot of the same platforms but Pontiac is starting to finally look like the performance division again with the GXP series and the arrival of the new G8. The only inconsistancy really is the G5. That thing needs to be either radically restyled to resemble the rest of the lineup, or phased out completly. If they are to keep the G5 around they also need a GXP model.

A couple years ago:

Sunfire
Grand Am
Grand Prix
Bonneville
Firebird
Aztec
Montana

Now

Solstice
G5
G6
G8
Torrent

lookin good

I really like the G6 and solstice. They did a really good job with the G6 with all the trim levels, and with the addition of the GXP model the G6 is complete. I think they could futher the goodness of the G6 by offering a less expensive canvas top for the convertible, but other than that the G6 seems to offer something for everybody...and since the G6 also has a decently equipped budget model, It also furthers the need to do away with the G5

Yea, There starting to look better.

No More Torrent Next Year and the G5 is a "fill in" so look for that to be gone with in a few year's.

G6 needs to be offered in RWD and AWD

G5 needs a v6 option and also RWD

The G8 looks like it is on track and the solstice is a nice little roadster.

Was the Bonneville discontinued? On the pontiac site it is not listed.

They also need to kill the Vibe or pass it along to another line.

I think Pontiac is going for a more "classy but still powerful and affordable" kind of look now. The G8 looks Saab/BMW-ish and has some power to it. I think they're getting away from the tin-can feeling cars (i.e. Sunfire) and making better ones.

Just a thought, but does anyone think that Pontiac will come out with a hybrid in the near future? Like a hybrid G5 or G6? In my opinion, I don't think that they're going to head in that direction yet but I really think they should.

Solstice- 9/10. Good idea, GXP is nice, but they could have pushed the limit more, either with price, power or style.

G5- 2/10. It's a Colbalt. So much for getting away from re-badging.... I understand the concept of sharing platforms and parts, but the Pontiac version should have more power. G5 would be a winner if a GXP/GTP version were around, with turbo, different body and all the goodies included.

G6- 7/10. Perfect rental fleet car. Many trim levels. The GTP version is a great step, but should have more power. Again, it should stand out, not just keep up with the pack.

G8- 6/10. It's a big car- not a huge market for them, but they seemed to do most of the things right on it. It just needs to be cheaper.

Torrent- Don't know much about it, so I won't say anything.

GTO going away- 2/10. Your performance line of your company doesn't have a designated sports car. Sweet idea. The GTO wasn't perfect, but at least was an attempt.

I finally caught an article about the G8 yesterday at the dentists office while waiting on the wife. Looks impressive. Starting at $25000. Looks like a cross of GTO and GP. I'm interested.

I kinda view the Solstice as the Pontiac Sports car these days. The GTO was done away with due to some new emissions law I thought. Anyway hopefully they'll bring something out in the near future.

DrFab are you nuts? no market for the G8 and too expensive? Name another car with 350+ hp for around 30k, even fully loaded they're saying 33k. Luxury performance has a good market, this car will be perfect for people that cant afford a lexus/infiniti/acura.

Wish pontiac would just get rid of the G5 theres no need for that garbage its a blemish on their new image
