are you considering any other cars? I would suggest the Civic Si... Ive test driven that car, and it feels like it has a nice little punch to it, compared to the ga....

Granted the SS is quicker than the GTP, but it’s sure lacking something and that would be class. All you have to do is take one look at that wing the cheap meshing and Interior. If you’re not all about performance the SS has nothing over the G6, you might as well buy a NEON SRT-4.

The G5 GT however has pretty much everything the SS is lacking in the category I’m talking about.

To me, the SS is considered domestic r!ce. GM trying to get into the tuner scene would be like going to a steak house and getting seafood...YOU JUST DON'T DO IT! If I wanted a foreign car, I would go with a Nissan.

interesting post since Nissan has made an effort in recent years to make alot of their vehicles more like domestics in terms of performance (as well as style)...

Go for the SS man. I own a Cobalt SS s/c and I think its a nice little ride. My wife daily drives it but I don't mind driving it on occasion. The only thing I don't like about it is how high I sit up in the drivers seat....I'm 6'4 tho so i can't help that. And how close the shifter is to my leg when i shift. I think it rides very well tho.

Oh yeah just FYI... not all SS s/c Cobalt come with that ghey wing. Mine came with a low profile type spoiler.

Not really, thats 2 out of how many? I cant even find a complete list that isnt under 30 entries long.
They have a long way to go if GM wants to make a v6 that can handle power without a bank loan behind it. Much less be reliable.

Meh all companies have the strong and weak points. Some say that for GM its the V6. Cant really complain about mine.

So what is a good V6 then??

G6 and CB SS SC are only about a tenth away from each other in QM and 0-60, so I'm sure they would run dead even on the strip. A stock SRT4 is only about a tenth faster in most aspects than the CB SS SC, IIRC

the g5 gt is also lacking the SC. im sure the g5 gxp will have a big spoiler on it.

domestic ****? because theyre in the small car/4 cyl market? not everyone can afford the cars with v8's, and they need something to compete with the other 4 cyl's.

like the other guy said, you can get it without the spoiler. i dont see how just that can ruin a car.

I'd agree; I can deal with a yellow car and a large spoiler, as long as the whole package beats everything else in its class (i.e. it has a ballsy motor that will blow the competition away). If it is just a mediocre car and only on par with the competition, its nothing to brag about.

Im a little offended by that comment. The SS has one of the uncheapest interiors I've seen in a gm car is years. The seats are recaros.. who makes porsche seats and the seats in the trans am ws6. I wouldn't really call them cheap and meshy. But anyway.. nearly all GM interiors are ****ty.. Including the G6 and the Corvette. Theres just no escaping plastic. Although gm interiors have improved greatly over the last few years. I've owned two silverados previous to my ss. A 1998 350 and a 2004 4.8 and I must say as far as wear is concerned the SS is lightyears better. Solid quiet and no rattles. Some of you are seperating the GTP so far from the SS it sounds like a bmw.. I've been in a gtp and its the same plastic and everything as the SS. Another sub $40,000 GM peice of plastic like nearly all clunky new cars on the road.. Class my ass ... I like to think my SS has class too. But I still like them both The G6's are light years ahead of their cheap plastic clunky grand ams though. Or anything pontiac has made in the last 10 years for that matter..

I'm sorry it offends you, but it’s my opinion, the SSSC looks like they tried to make it pre riced from the factory. Granted it has an awesome power plant, but unfortunately I'm not about the Sweet 16 rich kid looking cars. But that’s just me, each to their own.

Pontiac did a much better job with the G5, Chevy just went to far with the SSSC.

^ The G5 sucks, it's a piss-poor excuse for a Civic competitor and was created in the train of thought that got GM into their curtent mess. Badge engineered cars have no place in todays market.

As for the cheap interior discussion, the HVAC controls for the Cobalt/G5 have a terrible mechanical feel to them. Go try a Civics- they are all electronically actuated. Hopefully the next Cobalt will have an interior that matches the cars mechanical merits. I want a Civic with the blown Ecotec...

The huge spoiler looks bad too, I don't know why anybody would want it over the lower one.

For the most part spoilers are useless, but flow nicely w/ some cars ie: the STi,
Srt-4 and the old 2000 Accord sport just to name a few.

They are the same car with the same accessories.. how? besides the wing. I have a friend with a gt and its the exact same thing as my cobalt but much much slower. I saw a g5 the other day with a dealer installed ss/sc wing .. now that was horrible. I dont see how they are prericed either. Maybe the wing yeah.. but you can take that off.. the dealer even does it for you for free.

"HVAC controls for the Cobalt/G5 have a terrible mechanical feel to them"
Now you are just trying to find **** to bitch about? who gives a ****? You touch them for a total of 15 seconds a week. Different from any other GM car? NO

Exodus - The wing is more useful on an srt4 or accord??? ... yeah
The wings on the cobalt grand am racing cars are functional.. and they are the same as the street cars... the wing .. frame.. block.. everything. So that makes in funtional right? The frame is an proven opel racing frame.

sorry ill stop defending my car now.. should have known better that reading a grand am forum!.. ahaha I thought I might have some respect from fellow GM fans but i guess not.. I get along better with the camaro and corvette crowd.
