^the 8 cyl. charger has that I believe. Once you reach a certain speed, the engine shuts off 2 of the 8 cylinders.

Interesting how Lutz indicates that GM can't produce a small car at a profit. That to me sounds like they have given up on that part of the market as a manufacturer and are content to import small car offerings from other manufacturers.
I live in Oshawa where GM will be producing the new Camaro. With all the hype around this new car from GM and most of my friends you would think this one model is going to be the answer to all of GM's problems. This car will not sell in numbers great enough to have any major impact on GM. The reality is that it will probably be to costly to insure, expensive to buy and run. A great image product and a competitor to the mustang and challenger, but GM could spend R&D dollars in better areas in my opinion. I just bought a 2007 Uplander for just over 21K Cdn with incentives(6K of incentives). I remember when the Japanese manufacturers were the ones that sold cheap products (remember the term 'Jap Scrap' - no offense intended to anyone). Seems like the shoe is on the other foot now. |

considering its basically a 4-door GTO. A lot.
Ask anyone who has driven or owns a GTO if what you get for $30k is a deal! Build quality + interior + 350-400hp and 400 tq. Can't touch it anywhere else for low 30's. Now add the 4 doors and you can't touch it anywhere but in the AMG Mercedes / M series BMWs / S series Audis.

Personally I love a coupe but having a midsize sedan that is basically a sports car and having heard about it for the past 5 months and read everything about it makes it seem like its the car that I have really been waiting for. If I cant get a G8 Ill be getting an 06 GTO. |

That and its suppose to be sompeting with the Charger. Which honestly the charger should have come in a 2 door. But I don't think it would have done as good.

The GTO was a great car for the money, the G8 would've been a great car for the money like Bob said you cant touch 400hp for 30k, I dont want some crapbox economy car to drop 10k into modding it to make 400hp I'm older now I want a car with some class and power.

GM is in a real pickle with this one. But a few points I'd like to inform people of:
Its not exactly a walk in the park to build and design any car regardless of whether its hybrid or not. From paper to production takes 5 or more years for a typical car. Toyota has patented a very large portion of the hybrid technology, so as a result other companies like GM are now forced to either license the tech or make their own both options cost major $$. Hybrids actually suck. Why? They cause much more pollution than a regular car from the manufacturing process of the nickel for the batteries and the stuff travels the world before ending up back here, using up a lot of energy for transportation in the process. Also why bother with a hybrid camry or civic? Popular Mechanics tested a few and got interesting results. Their gasoline counterparts get just as good if not better mileage. The hyrbid civic got worse numbers with for mpg and costs more than its gas only counterpart. Until they can up the hauling/towing capacity of a hybrid you will never see a hybrid TRUCK. I refuse to pay $5,000 extra for 3 or less extra mpg. Some of this is fact but my own opinions are mixed in as well.

New CO2 emission requirements will eventually kill the gas engine for good. It's a damn shame really, things are just starting to get interesting. What will happen near term is the development of more forced induction 6 and 4 cylinder engines that will replace traditional 8 and 6 cylinder engines. It doesn't really matter if the car is RWD or FWD if CO2 emissions are the problem. I think GM should continue to move forward with Zeta and other RWD platforms, they'll just have to work on keeping the weight down so they can perform decently with 6 cylinder engines.

Uhmm...... Why the hell is it any of the governments business what kind of fuel mileage a car gets anyway? If I wanted a car that only gets 2 mpg, then shouldn't that be my business, and mine alone? Man-made Global Warming is one of the biggest leftist pieces of crap stories ever, so it can't be because of that..... is it? Please tell me no.

GM does have V8 hybrids. They just put them in their trucks instead of cars. That's because GM was actually smart enough to figure out that cars are lighter and with the cost of making a hybrid car compared to the actual fuel savings you have to drive the car for like 9 years to make up the cost difference. A truck however the fuel savings are bigger with a hybrid so it pays for itself sooner than a car.

You are so uninformed sometimes. Why don't you stop with all you "left-wing" this and "religion" that? It's already been proven that global warming is a fact, that it's happening, and that we are making it happen faster than it should naturally. And it comes from sources that are not attached to any political party or agenda. Try doing some research.
