I'll be the first to admit I don't know... that's why I started this thread. I just found what you said unlikely because I asked the guy I bought the car from from an authorized GM dealership and he said I could expect at least 8,000 for my car.

Bob's right though- these cars don't hold their value at all- and its all because the rental car fleets were flooded with Grand Am SE's and GT's for their entire production run. I took my 30th aniversary Orange 2003 GT1 with SCT and 16,000 miles into the dealership to see what it is worth- they told me they could give me $8500-9000, depending on the market at the time. My car is in spotless condition and never driven during the winter. I chose to keep it- its paid off and a fun summer cruiser.

I am going to throw this question out there in hopes that Bob doesn't verbally abuse me (again) do you all think $12,500.00 is a fair price for a black 2003 Pontiac Grand AM GT sedan with only 19,000 miles on it? The car is immaculate

Geez. Shut up all of you and move on. You've made your point and there's no sense in trying to beat j_goldwood into submission with it. FTR, everyone's just about correct regarding the price. If I were to sell MY car I'd be realistically looking for no more than $6.5-7K and that's pushing it.

IF there is any more back and forth ranting/arguing/bitching I will start handing out warning points. So quit it.

In July 2004 I could not get anyone to buy my 8 month old 2004 GAGT with 8500 miles on it for $13,500. Seeing as it is almost 3 years later (4 model years), that $12,500 price is an astronomical joke.

Your better off advertising in the local paper, autotrader etc.. people on here are going to pay less for it than most other people in the real world would. Most people are not familiar with the problems etc.

Spend a couple bucks and get a few adds out, ask high so you have room to negotiate.

First off, find a plain black hood and sell off the SC/T hood.

What are you looking to get after you trade in the grand am? If you are looking to get kbb trade in value Saturn of Ft. Wayne (and most Kelley dealerships) will generally give you the full kbb trade in value. The down side is that they will not budge on the sticker price.

I am not sure how Thompson's is in Columbia City, but you might want to take it in and see what local dealers would do on a trade.

The used car market is flooded right now and that is driving the prices down, so it is going to be a matter of what the Indiana car lots and dealers will give.

No Joke, short of going out of state to purchase one in my area you can't touch a 2003 Grand Am with less than 50K miles on it for under 10 grand and even then it's a roach. I wish I was in the market when you were selling yours for sure.

It's a real simple, and often used trick. because as you are showing us, it makes it feel like you, as the customer, are "winning" and getting a "deal".

I guess I have to say this again for the newbs. A used car must be marked up $3000-5000 above the trade value they give it in order to justify their work into getting it back to sellable speed, leave room for negotiating, plus make a worthy profit. An '03 GAGT isn't going to sell for more than $9k realistically. Thus, your trade in is looking at $5000-5500.

Also for the 1,037th time. KBB and NADA are pointless. They mean absolutely nothing. True values are now driven by auto auction prices, because that's what the vehicles are TRULY selling at. You want cheap cars? Go get a dealers license, then attend an auto auction, and you'll be able to get yourself an '04 GTO for probably $12-14k

The old folks here can tell you I know WTF I am talking about. I worked at a dealer for 3 years, have had many cars, my bro-in-law is still a Sales Manager of 16 years now, and my dad a 30+ year GM employee.

I got 10,500 for my GA and the dealer sold it less than 2 weeks for 12,900. So that's only $2400 difference?? I went to another dealership and they wanted to offer me 9,950 and they wanted all my original parts to the car what a joke especially since it wasn't leased. I know I'm going to start a flame war now!
