Setup question
Pioneer Setup:
I currently have a Pioneer player and speakers, though I am looking to replace them since the back are just starting to go. I don't have subs or an amp yet, so I run bass through my normal speakers. I would like to keep an all-Pioneer setup that sounds good and isn't too expensive. How does this sound: Subs - (2) TS-W306C/DVC Amp - (1) GM-6200F, GM-7200M, GM-5200T (not sure) 6x9 - (2) TS-A6971R 4x6 - (2) TS-A4670R (I think this is the size for our front door speakers? I might try to fit 6's in there at some point) Door Sails - (Pioneer doesn't make, would go with whatever is made, I know there is a link somewhere) How does this sound, and what would you suggestions be? Thanks ![]() PS - I wasn't sure with the amps, cause when it comes to amps and subs (especially amps) I don't really know what the outputs and everything mean (ex is 'peak music power' the most that will get pumped if volume and bass and such is all the way up? and is 'output power' just the baseline min they will always pump?) Yeah, I'm a car audio n00b when it comes to anything above regular speakers ![]() |

Hey man,
On amps and speakers, the RMS rating is the key. I honestly don't pay any attention to the peak ratings. An amp's RMS rating is what it can put out continuously, all day long. The peak rating is what it can put out briefly during a dynamic track (hope I phrased that right). A speaker's RMS rating is what it can take all day long without overheating the voice coil. Peak is, again, what it can take briefly without issues. Your setup looks good. Stock door size is 4x6, but it'll sound significantly better if you can stick 5.25" (or 6.5") speakers in there. The easiest way to go bigger is with the Metra 82-3300 kit (made for the Cavalier/Sunfire). If you go with a set of components (separate woofer and tweeter) like these or these, you can mount the tweeter up in the sail panel like I did. http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...ss/tweets1.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...ss/tweets2.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...ryss/pside.jpg If you have the stock tweeters up there, you can get a set of blank sail panels (no hole) for about $8 apiece from the dealer, then make your own holes. That way you can flush mount the tweeters and know they'll look right. As far as amps, your best bet would be to go with a GM-7200M and a 6200F. Wire both subs in parallel off of the 7200M and they'll each get about 200 watts. Wire the front and rear speakers to each channel of the 6200F. Once you have some subs in there, you can cut off the bass going to the regular speakers and they'll play louder and cleaner. You might be able to do that right from your radio. Just curious: Where are you buying your stuff? I've gotten a ton of my stuff from this guy on eBay. He's an excellent guy to deal with. Note: I'm a big Pioneer fan ![]() |

Hey all, instead of making a new thread, I'm dredging up my old one
![]() I'm just looking to replace maybe my 6x9's at this point. They don't seem to sound as good as new anymore, and can distort. I've looked into the thread Basic System Design and Tuning and found a bunch of good info there I'm looking to get some speakers that will sound better than what I have. I like to have my bass turned up (not all the way, though), and some songs tend to distort, and I try to keep the volume down anyways. No sense having it real loud if I'm just driving down the highway to/from work and trying to relax ![]() Anyways, I pretty much want something that will flow better and will hold me over until I get an amp and subs. Here's what I found from sounddomain.com (they don't specify, but they DO give you two for the price they quote, right? Just want to make sure )Pioneer TS-A6981R - $85 Pioneer TS-A6962R - $55 Thoughts/comments/suggestions? ![]() |

Cool. How do the Pioneer Premier TS-A931P or Pioneer Premier TS-A932P sound to you? I'm not well educated in all the specs for speakers, but wouldn't mind a little tutorial on the specs, if you can point me to one. Also, would I be okay if I got a low-wattage amp to power them? If I recall, the thread I mentioned above said you can get one to run your subs and 6x9's, but I was just thinking for now maybe I could get one that one pump too much and kill them (though I could probably get one that allows me to select the wattage to a certain degree, right?) and make them better, then add a second amp later (or just upgrade that one) when I get subs. Sound like a plausible/good idea?
One thing, I just saw the Pioneer Premier TS-A941P, which are priced on there the same as the Pioneer TS-A6981R. They sound good, and the two reviews on them are good. I'm looking up more reviews on them now, but whatcha think? |

Okay gurus, I'm reviving this thread again in hopes that someone will answer my questions!
Would it be a good idea to run 6x9s (say the TS-A941P) with a smallish amp? Or would I end up killing the speakers? How would I avoid blowing them with that setup? |

Paying a place like that to put in your stuff is ridiculous. I understand if your a person who doesnt ahve wiring experience or anything, but it is actually quite simple. I'd never pay a place like that.

ok sorry. Premier's stuff is Pioneer's top of the line stuff. the best way i can put it is like this. Pioneer is like Toyota and Premier is like Lexus. there pretty much the same quality, one is just built with better componets. same thing with Premiers. they have really good bass, and i think the mid-range on a Premier is a lot better then on a pioneer 6x9.
you dont have to amp them, thell sound good with just a head unit. but i remember the first time i amped my Premiers, i was amazed. there was a LOT more bass. so you dont have to amp them, but if you do you gain much better sound, and you can take bass away from your 4x6's and give more to the 6x9s. so you can turn your system up louder if you do it correctly.

Cool, thanks for the input on the Premier. I saw some Pioneer 6x9's at Circuit City that were $49.99, can't remember the model # though and don't see them on their website. Ah well, I think I will go with the Premier TS-A941P, cause they are those sexay and they are 4-ways
BTW - wtf is a 5-way? I know that 4-way have a supertweeter, but what's the extra piece of the 5ers? |

IIRC, Pyle makes a 8-way 6x9 with a magnet in the vicinity of 200 ounces... Can be found on the bay, look for a bright ass yellow paint finish.

haha, id say it is for like selling purposes only. and knowing Pyle is a generic low end brand like Dual and other out there, i'd say ignore it. i got 3way infinitys and like them. who really needs 2 or 5 more speakers for highs when 1-2 is normal? haha

Well I found a link somewhere on here (gotta find again) for the tweeters in my doorsails cause I need to replace those and get that all around sound back again (not that I ever heard it, but you know). Now, my only issue is when I did my window regulator I found this:
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...DKain/Pic3.jpg and this: http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...DKain/Pic2.jpg Besically, it looks like someone took the ONLY speaker wire and elec taped it together with the one coming out of the 6x9. The tweeter ends in a elec tape and was just chilling behind the door panel. How would I fix this? |
