Custom building my own exhaust

I'm in the middle of building my own exhaust system, just bought the ZZP downpipe and some 2.5" stainless piping (no cat ) and ran it straight back. Before I put the glasspack on I made a sound clip of what a 3400 grand am sounds like with just a downpipe and a little straight piping (only other mods are a MMS PCM and a CAI).

Beastly... Sounds like my old 87 Dodge Ram... Had a 318 and no pipping after the cat. Oh and it had a hole before the cat too.

Sounds damn good. Damn noise laws....

It actually doesn't smell bad at all (no rotten egg smell), smells just a little like unburned fuel, which i don't think is too bad. I've ran it like this for about a week and the smell doesn't get into the cab at all even while at a stop, which i found a little surprising since at the moment the piping only goes about 3/4 of the way back.

I went about 3/4 throttle by a cop that I didn't see, I thought I was screwed but the didn't even give me a second glance, I guess thats one good thing about living in Nebraska.

I'm kinda curious if the exterior of your SE is all stock. If a completely stock looking SE pulled up next to me at a light sounding like that and revved it..I'd piss myself.

Sounds like you've got a hole in your exhaust.

I can't seem to be able to download the sound clip. I click the download and it acts like it's gonna download and then it refreshes the page and does the little count down again.

My whole car looks completely stock, I keep getting double takes from just about everyone who notices it's a grand am

First off you aren't driving a race car... you don't even have headers, you're using the stock exhaust mani's which suck and just a down pipe. There's absolutely no reason to be running around without a cat on a daily driver. It smells bad, it sounds bad (I've tried it, I know), it's polluting, and it doesn't even make you that much power. Put a high flow cat on it. They cost about $60 and you'll lose a whooping 1-2hp. Second thing, lose the glass pack. Glass packs are for old men with street rods. There are way better mufflers out now. Get yourself a single inlet/dual outlet from magnaflow, flowmaster, dynomax, etc and it will sound great. Nice and low and not raspy.

Theres no emissions tests, it doesn't smell bad at all, I'm getting headers/probably going to fabricate my own turbo setup in the next year, glasspacks are cheap (I've only spent ~$170 all together on all of the exhaust components), and I like the sound with the glasspack.

If it doesn't smell bad, maybe you're inhaling so much fumes you're getting a headchange??

At least use proper grammar if you're going to attempt an insult.

I guess it was wrong for me to post anything about my or any other car and expect to not get lectured.

His grammar seems fine to me- I think the word choice was wrong though.

Aaron, you have to remember one thing, its his car... i would also recomend putting a cat back into the exhaust but hes open to whatever muffler he chooses to use

1-2hp can mean the difference between winning and losing. Ask any racer, any real racer. It doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile; winning's winning.

Welcome to the internet.

Oh, and it doesn't matter if there are no emmissions tests. We don't have them here either. Still doesn't mean you should drive your daily driver around with no cat on it. Catalytic converters are the single biggest reducer of pollution on a car. It's your car... but the rest of us live on this planet too. Have a little consideration...

. Joe if you re-read that, the HP thing and the F&F quote actually make no sense together. I'm with aaron on this one I say throw the cat back on..
