Its not a 100% sport car, but like you said, you get great build quality and interior + Power for a little over 30k. They'd be stupid to get rid of it at this point, however, since I'm not the only person in the world interested in it. Its already turned a lot of heads, and even a buddy I have at work who hates GM was impressed.

The G8 too me seems close to the "perfect car". Its the perfect blend of a Sports car and a Luxury car. If they plan on producing this, I'll definitly consider it for my next car. Just hope they release it in white
I couldn't agree more. I was really looking forward to checking out the G8 when it came out and SERIOUSLY considering it as my next car!! It just seemed too perfect to me. Heck, I was just talking about this car to wife like a week ago and how I wanted to buy it as my next vehicle. I've decided against the whole 2002 WS6 TA thing as that just doesn't seem feasible (as a daily half-way economical car that is) at all these days unless its just a person's "extra" fun car.

Also, back to the original topic, I sure hope GM can STEP UP and figure something out to comply with the government overall. GM was about quench our thirst by producing these RWD V8S and other up coming projects. GM really has (had) a chance to get COMPLETELY back on track and look damn good in the process!

Fuel rules chill GM rear-drive bid

April 21, 2007
Gerry Malloy
Special to the Star
Toronto Star newspaper

General Motors has put plans for several rear-wheel-drive cars on hold, pending clarification of U.S. plans for revised fuel-economy rules and new carbon dioxide (CO2) regulations.

The new Chevrolet Camaro, scheduled to be built in Oshawa, is apparently safe, and plans to import the Pontiac G8 sedan from Australia will go ahead.

The mid-size 2008 G8, expected to arrive early next year, will take over from the front-wheel-drive Grand Prix. The latter name has been a Pontiac mainstay since 1962.

The G8 is the first North American vehicle featuring General Motor's new global rear-wheel-drive architecture developed by Holden, GM's Australian subsidiary.

But rear-drive replacements for the full-size Buick Lucerne and Chevrolet Impala sedans and a possible new compact Cadillac are believed to be affected by the rethought federal standards.

One of the proposals being considered by the U.S. government involves raising fuel-economy standards an average of 4 per cent annually.

In addition, the U.S. Supreme Court recently ruled that the Environmental Protection Agency has the authority to regulate CO2 emissions from vehicles.

Either or both of those scenarios could have a drastic effect on the type of vehicles auto makers will have to build to comply.
So it is a go for the Pontiac G8.

If the New RWD Chevrolet Impala is effected, thats going to hurt GM. With the Crown Vic Dead. Police Dept's will be left with few Choice's.

FYI the Magnum/Charger's polica addition looks Nice, Specially with the New LED low pro-file lights there using here.

Actually, I still find them to look like heavy, ugly, boxy pieces of Chrysler sh1t.

And not as roomy as the crown vic.

And has ford officially announced there wont be a police interceptor after a certain year????

I think the concept on a stretched mustang platform they are parading around will replace the vic.

Well this won't be a bad thing then... Everyone complains about Badge engineering, and with the Impala and Lucerne on hold, the G8, and Camaro will be their own unique cars. Looks like the W and H platforms are going to be longer than what people originally planned on.

But then again you never know with GM. Wasn't the Zeta Platform originally canceled? I'm almost willing to bet the next gen impala and lucerne do come out anyway, and most likely some stupid @$$ Full size RWD saturn will come with them, since Saturn has been turned into the new oldsmobile.

Ford Interceptor Concept - Auto Shows
A Mustang-based Chrysler 300 killer.
BY STEVE SILER, PHOTOGRAPHY BY JEFFREY G. RUSSELL
December 2006

For a couple years now, Ford has allowed Chrysler’s full-size 300 to enjoy a challenge-free reign of the eye-catching, rear-drive sedan market. This in spite of Ford having many bad boys in own past from which to pillage, not to mention an entirely capable rear-drive platform underpinning nothing but the Mustang. We thought there was hope in the form of the bitchin’ 427 Concept from a couple years back, but that materialized into exactly nothing. Now we have the Interceptor concept.

Ford sees the Interceptor as “keeping Mustang momentum accelerating,” but we don’t think anyone will see any Mustang anything in the Interceptor, at least not on account of its looks. And that’s a good thing, as a Mustang sedan would be hideous. To say nothing of blasphemous. Then again, that didn’t stop Dodge….

So Instead of grafting the Mustang’s iconic, shark-shaped schnoz onto a sedan, designers mimicked the front end of Ford’s F250 Super Chief Concept, which to our surprise, actually works pretty well. And why not? Ford didn’t use it for the real F250. Besides, it certainly gets the tough-guy point across. Dominant features include Ford’s three-bar grille and “squircle” (radiused rectangle) headlamps followed by a blunt, flat clamshell “shaker” hood. Back a bit further, one notices chrome fender vents, an exaggerated waistline, a narrow, chrome-trimmed greenhouse and huge wheels to accentuate its chopped, mob-boss profile.

Nestled within the lovingly detailed engine bay is a Ford Racing 5.0-liter, E85-compatible V-8 producing 400 horsepower (similar to the motor found in Ford’s successful FR500C Grand Am racer). Said engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission, operated via a sexy, Ferrari-style gated shifter. The Interceptor rides on a unequal-length control arm front suspension, but a Mustang-like solid rear axle.

Inside, the black leather-covered front buckets feature low-rise seatbacks for added muscle-car character. Head restraints deploy from the low, low ceiling (only 37.5 inches of front headroom will surely render the Interceptor ineligible for the NBA’s Most Valuable Ride award). Center stack controls hide behind panels to clean up the dashboard—no iDrive for this big sedan (maybe someone can show BMW how to do this). Safety innovations include four-point seat belts for all four seats, with inflatable belts (!) for the pair in back.

Whether Ford can come up with the cash to develop the Interceptor beyond an auto show starlet is anyone’s guess. However, what worked so well for Chrysler surely couldn’t hurt Ford.

If nothing else, once the Crown Vic dies, the cops will be looking for a new Interceptor of their own.
