guys maybe I should have mentioned that I was considering this as a cheap cruiser type project instead of a project from the sounds of you guys would easily reach $10000-20000.

I was thinking of a project that would be all said and done at $8000. Ya know some suspension, satin black paint w/ pinstripping, new wheels, original interior redone in satin black vinyl, and just make sure the motor is in good running order.
u gotta admit, a RB26DETT powered grand am would be pretty amazing

The shop where I work on the Grand Am at does RB, SR20DET, B-series, K-series, 4G63, etc... motor swaps, motor work, one-off turbo setups, tuning, etc..

I definitely know and at the very least had some hands on time on them.

The RB series motor is an inline 6 cyl. It was as far as I know, someone please correct me if I am wrong, was only available in RWD and AWD configurations.

Just not worth the hassle, when the N-body already comes with a perfectly suitable big power making powerplant. The Ecotec.

Yep inline 6

How much does that 280Z weigh with no engine? You might want to look into a VQ30 I just remember reading on the sentra boards more aftermarket parts and tuning options are available and it will easily make 500whp...check out this thread

so $1800 for the car, another $700-2000 for a motor on ebay. hope there's a tranny adaptor to mate it to the GM tranny already in the car...... then find some hick that wants a perfectly stout chevy V8 350 beastie.

If I get this car I'm stickin' w/ the 350, and waiting until LSx motors are in my price range.

Basically I would pick this up to turn into a "headturner", something fun to toss around for a bit.

It'll get me familiar w/ datsuns until I can find an elusive 510 that suits me.

well u know wat i mean tho, it would make a pretty amazing car. and ya, the ecotec also has some serious potential; even the stock motors on cars like the cobalt ss supercharched and ion redline are pretty nice for stock...thank you very much ecotec. its almost like the new VTEC; **** load of parts, and very high potential output.

How much are used LS motors? I would seriously look at a vq series motor they're pretty cheap used about 1200-1500 and mods galore, plus when you get a 510 you'll already have the motor. I'd like to pick up a cheap 510 someday myself something about those cars looks like it would be a fun project
