A strut tower bar will not create over steer. It only affects the response speed of the springs by reducing chassis flex. You are much more likely to get over steer from installing just a rear sway bar and not a front sway bar. That's why I tell people to get both to keep it balanced.

okay, correct me if im wrong. understeer- front tires oversteer- rear tires... get the bars and it corrects it by limiting body flex slightly right?
im just trying to remember this from a long long time ago |

When the front tires slide and the car doesn't want to rotate or turn that is understeer. When the rear tires slide and the back end of the car kicks out (the car rotates and turns) that is oversteer. Limiting body flex will have negligible affect on changing the handling balance. See above.

so are the braces a waste of mulah or should i just get the front for a lil gain at least?
today i threw the car into some turns and it seemed pretty tight. going back to one of my earlier threads, i think tire psi has alot to do with it as well.

Its really up to you. Will you get some effect from adding a front bar? A little yea. Do you really need it? Unless you're planning on going autocrossing (in which case you would go all out on suspension), not really.

There's been a debate about all this for quite some time now. The majority of people tend to get the STBs first, most the front first, due to them being so easy to install.
Like Aaron was saying, the STBs don't do very much, if anything for body rolls. They are designed to keep the body from flexing so much, or flex together providing a more balanced feel while turning. Sway bars are probably the better bet if you are concerned about the oversteer or understeer. In the case with our cars, massive understeer. Keep the body from rolling so much and throwing its weight to the outside of the curve and you take alot of that out. That's atleast what I've notice. I got to drive my buddy's camaro before he got the sways, and then after. Big difference on such a heavy and clumsy car. Last edited by timberwoof; 05-12-2007 at 10:43 PM. |

if you want to keep suspension fairly stock but still want that feeling of a bit stiffer turn... then i would get it. its one of those mods that feel weird for the first hour or so after you install it, then its something you forget about until you try to take a sharp turn w/o it.
i think that its worth it on some cars (like the 350z that needs it badly). for me, anything that will help reduce flex and/or roll in tight turns then im for it. |

Oh they're definitely worth the money. I'm just sayin' make sure you understand what effect they are going to have so you won't be disappointed when you install them.

neither one is any more important than the other... you are better off doing both at the same time to maintain proper balance... as wolf stated before having only one or the other can make the car unpredictable in corners and act a little strange while braking hard... installing the braces will make the car MUCH more predictable/consistent in the corners and very slightly improve braking performance..

if you plan to do hard cornering or any other suspension mods you would be best to get and install both before proceeding with more mods or anymore hard cornering... if you arent going to do more suspension mods or much hard cornering I would suggest not bothering with either... unless you just want your suspension and brakes to be working to their fullest as well as reducing the wear on your chassis np always happy to help

well i like taking turns moderately fast. so i guess i'll just wait until my system is finished that i'll get em both and i'll know if there will be enough room for the rear brace above my sub box
