Wow. I need to get in here more often.
There is no "ultimate brand" of woofer, amp, or anything else. There are quite a few who set themselves apart from the pack, and are generally excelent. There are many (most mid-range brands these days) that off okay up to very good, and are all acceptable. There are a few to just plain avoid. On your budget, you'll be looking at the second group new, or the first group if you find a super clearance deal or will buy used. Personally, I have no problem buying used if the seller is reputable and I am familiar with the product in question. If it was my system? Treo SSi or JL W3, probably a single 15" - around $200 lightly used or on clearance. A single big woofer generally moves more air than a couple smaller ones, and anyone who says 15's are sloppy needs to remember that one amp moving two 12" cones and coil assemblies is moving more mass than a single 15, so don't go there. A decent brand 500 to 800 no-BS watt class-D monoblock amp, another $200. I prefer MTX, JBL, JL Audio, to name a few. JBL and MTX class D monoblocks fused at 60 or more amps for under $200 are plentiful and powerful. Wires and accessories to install, probably around $60. That leaves $190 to have a custom ported box built, which you should be able to manage. That's what I would do. But you're not me. Nor are you any of these guys. Make up your own mind, try to listen to things before you buy.

so ya you really cant stimp on any part of your system cuz in the end you'll notice it. this doesnt mean spend 900 on a head unit, 1200 on an amp, and by TOP OF LINE wiring, and the most expensive subs out there. but like buying decent stuff will get u further than the way down low stuff. Like the best buy head units under $100. anythign $200 and more and a pioneer or alpine buys you something decent at least. same thing with your amp kit. i wouldnt get the $20 dollar amp kit cuz you'll get interference and other unwanted crud in your sound.
so in short; buy decent stuff and you'll be more than happy. is it just me; or is there a LOT of parody in car audio?

not always. the MTX Jackhammer is $10,000 and i want nothing to do with it. exercise comman sense, and listen to what you can. know what sound you like, and buy based on that information.

FWIW, millionbuy.com has the RF 25-to-life 2ch amps on clearance.
IIRC: punch45 $130 70+ x2 @4ohm punch75 $160 200+ x2 @4ohm punch150 $190 300+ x2 @4ohm Usually the trick to winning the bass race in HS is porting. Just don't tell them it's ported or they will tell you it is sloppy without even hearing it. |
