Break In Period For Subs?
I just Got 2 12" Kicker CompVR's, i read that you should give about 2 weeks time for them to "break in". Is there a big difference in loudness, or Sound Quality after they are broken in....or is it nothing big? I have been a little hesitant about turning the subs up because i was thinking they needed to break in first before i hit them with lots of bass. Is this no big deal or what?

Any system I've ever had ive hooked it up, and pounded, your not gonna break your subs or something, pound away. Thats what they are made for

Are The Kicker CompVR's Supposed to be able to get extremely loud?...i have a friend that has these two walmart brand subs (each go for like $50) and you can hear is system from down the block. I havent attempted to turn mine up that loud but do you think the kickers can get up there? (by the way my volume on my deck stays at 30 , it can go to 40....and my bass remote that came with my amp only stays about 1/4 of the way up.) Should i go louder?

I have the same speakers and I'm slightly over powering them..they definitely pound pretty hard.
It is good to break them in though. The subwoofers surround is very stiff when they're brand new. Breaking them in loosens up that stiffness and allows them to get louder than if they weren't broken in. The woofer will also be more capable of reaching lower notes.

dont lsiten to bryan he doesnt know what hes talkin about. Jk bro
just givin u a hard time . Ehh, remember the box plays a HUGE role in how they will sound. In my own experiences with bass control knobs and such, I found that it actually hit a little harder w/o the knob. But good to have it there by your side if you see the Po-Po. |

I have another question about my Bass Remote...it has one knob on it to boost the db(which i guess is to make it louder), then there is another knob that has something to do with the hz i think. What does that knob do exactly?

Is "breaking in" the subs something special you have to do...or do the subs just break in after a certain period of usage which im guessing is about 2 weeks from what i have herd.

There's absolutely no harm in running subs (or amps or speakers) at lower volume for a period of time before you start banging them (to break them in, so to speak) but I've never seen proof of any change in sound characteristics that occurs once a component is 'broken in'. |

Break in period? What?
Dude, just turn your stereo up all the way, then tune the subs to the distortion point, then down one notch. Then you're guaranteed to not break them no matter how loud you turn your system up.

I just got 2 12" Kicker CVR's in a sealed box. Before this, I just had one of them in a ported box. I LOVE my new setup. I was undecided between JL Audio and Kicker, but the guy at the local stereo shop told me Kicker subs can take a lot more beating. JL is more of a sound quality subwoofer.
One of the guys at the shop told me to go easy on them for first 10 hours, and the other guy told me to wait about 2 weeks. I e-mailed Kicker because I couldn't find anything about it in the manual. I will let you guys know what they say. |

i have 1 12" sony xplod in a band pass box that has been in three different cars. the thing is in excelent condition and hits VERY hard. its really quiet impressive how this ONE sub sounds. im pretty sure it never got a break in period. ill have to ask my bro cuz he was the original owner. anyways it hits extremely hard and the amp really isnt turned up very much. its amazing that it has lasted this long. does anyone know what the RSM for the older model 12" xplod is. my amp is a 360 RSM and its not really turned up very much. just dont wanna go over with it.

But with any setup, it's probably a good idea to run it a lower volume for a little while (at least an hour) before you start banging it. |

yeah, my manual says the same thing. Crutchfield's FAQ even says the same, but it doesn't say take it easy on them or anything. It just says they'll be able to hit lower notes because the cone is stiff when they're brand new.
