Korben Still kinda new, but learning
How many/what size?

Like the title says, how many subs do you need to make it sound good in a 4 door GAGT? And 12" or 10"?

Would 2 JL12W1V2's powered by a 350 watt amp work fine? I don't listen to rap so I don't really need it to 'bump.' I'm more into alternative/Taking Back Sunday/Fall Out Boy/Angels and Airwaves/stuff like that.

Thanks

All I have in my car is 1 12" sub and a 600 watt amp and it hits really hard. And yes I know what I am talking about. Dont let anyone tell you that you need a huge amp for a system to sound good.

its all up to you. that amp will work fine with those subs.

BUT!
10s would probably be better for the type of music you listen to IMO. it wont be as low playing as 12s but with alternative, they hardly have that extremely low freq. bass like that in hip hop music.

IMO, Fall Out Boy's CD sounds great in my Grand Am and i dont even have subs..yet

Are you looking for really hard bass drum hits and stuff or are you just looking for some low end to compliment what you have? ..I think that makes sense.

Eh, it's not the deep 'shakes your clothes off of you' type of bass, it's just bass that comes along with drums and guitars.

No offense, but bandpass enclosures are probably the HARDEST to get SQ out of. A decent sealed or even ported box will stomp all over just about any bandpass box out there, unless LOTS of attention is paid to the design of the enclosure to work PERFECTLY with the subs in it. Which is not the case with any bandpass box you'll see at Circuit City or Best Buy.

The bandpass will be louder, most likely. Boomy, good for rap, bad for SQ, that's 99% of the bandpass enclosures out there, IMO.

And to the OP, unfortunately everyone has a different opinion on what sounds 'good'. Personally I would go with a single 12" in a sealed box.

well do you know if he was going to custom build or not? with the right subs, they can produce SQ in that box. i recall a friend of mine having 2 infinity perfect 10s in a bandpass box listening to rock and they sounded great

x2. I hate the sound of rock with a ported enclosure. I'm using a sealed and the solid punchyness of bass drum hits is great.

Yes, with the right subs and the right enclosure. It's not just a matter of grabbing a sub, throwing it in a box, and calling it a day. With a sealed box, as long as it's the right size you can usually get away with that. But bandpass boxes are WAY fussier to get right than a sealed or ported box. And they are not known for SQ.

I'm not saying it's impossible, just saying that unless he listens primarily to rap, he'll probably get better sound with something other than a bandpass, with less effort (and $). But hey, I'm not anti-bandpass, just never heard fantastic sound out of one.

I pretty much listen to rap/hiphop and r&b and rock. I had a Bostwick band pass that I got from car audio shop.

Basicly man its whatever sounds good to you. If you like how it sounds get it. You can always change things around later the better you get with car audio. If you already have stuff just use that. You will figure it out. You have to start somewhere right?

I used to have one 12" Kicker CVR in a ported box.

After many thoughts, I now have 2 of the same sub in a sealed box with a more powerful amp. I love my new setup. If the trunk space isn't an issue, go for 2 subs.

infinity makes an all in one thing as well if you're only looking for richer sound and not the "sub" sound so to speak. isnt it called a Basslink or something? sub/amp/enclosure for like 250 i think, and it only takes 8 gauge wiring

yeah infinity has the Basslink series of powered subs. they have a built in amp that can be upgraded from a mono, to a 5 channel. so you get 4 channels for the speakers and 1 for the sub.

from my past experiences with powered subs, i stay the hell away from them. but infinity has impressed me in the past with their subs. but if he is looking for space saving affordable bass, i would take the basslink over any bazooka tube any day of the week.
Heres what i found:
Basslink
Basslink II
Basslink T

Wink

I just have one JL 10w3v2 with the e1200 amp and a ported box. It's only 200 watts, but many people are suprised about how loud and clean it is. I used to have 2 12" MTX 6000's with the 600 watt amp, but I like the JL a lot better. You dont always need multiple subs to get some good bass, just depends on what you think is "loud"
