well all i know is when i bypassed it, it got louder and sounded clearer. and i never said to run em in parallel or series. i said run it with a cross over. giving a tweeter a full ranger signal makes no sense. cuz im pretty sure u wouldnt get much bass of a .5in driver now would u?

But where's the crossover going? If you just use the HP crossover on the headunit, it's gonna HP the door speakers and the tweeters. The door speakers may handle being HP'd at 100-150hz, but the tweeters will need to be cut way higher than that (somewhere between 2K-5K, maybe). If you HP'd the door speakers at 2K, you'd get nearly no sound out of them.
You'd need to use a passive crossover to do it right. Problem is, you'd have to build your own (or buy one and hope that it'll work well for those drivers). And you can't build one without knowing the specs of the speakers, good luck finding those anywhere AND finding someone with the ability to build a proper crossover network. I stand by my original comment. It makes NO SENSE bypassing the Monsoon amp unless you're running aftermarket speakers. The amount of effort involved to do it properly would take way too much time and effort for (if you're really lucky) only minimal improvement to the stock speakers. You'd be way better off installing aftermarket speakers and THEN bypassing the Monsoon amp. If that's still not enough, pick up a 4-channel amp to run everything. Anyway, this has gone WAY off topic. If you want to discuss it further, feel free to PM me.Last edited by jperryss; 07-12-2007 at 07:08 AM. |

Ahhhhhh crap, sorry folks. I forgot to include the year/model and what not. It does have the stock, upgraded stereo, dunno if thats Monsoon or Delco but think it's Delco.
So going to an aftermarket headunit doesnt really require any wiring changes for the speakers, it only requires changing it if I go to aftermarket speakers? And I'll look around at other threads, but can anyone give me recommendations for the front and back speakers? I've got 2 JL subs which provide pplleennttyy of bass for my wants but I'm not getting enough actual voice/instrumental sound. I do need to re-configure it all with the new headunit but are there any recommendations for the 4x6's and 6x9's? My 6x9s are popping sometimes right now so I gotta change those. Sorry I've been posting all these threads, I'm not really thinking before I ask questions. I'll work on that so I'm not so dang annoying. |

scrap the 4x6s, get 5.25s or 6.5 rounds for the doors. and for 6x9s just get wat sounds best to YOU. we can tell u wat sounds good but thats meaningless, it has to sound good to u cuz ur gonna have it in YOUR car. just go to best buy, pick out what sounds best, take note of the price, and look em up on ebay. i got ~100 door speakers for like 40 bucks off of ebay. look at my signature if it ever shows up again

I have Alpine CDA-9885 HU connected to stock Monsoon amp/speakers. I just have a Metra adapter behind the deck for chimes. Sounds good enough for me.

let me tell you what i have: 2000 GAGT with an Alpine CDA-9885 Headunit, and i have the steering wheel controls working properly with the link that is in one of the posts above. my Delco amp is still wired into the 6x9s, since the front door speakers and tweeters work from the HU's power. and they sound just like factory so dont worry about crossovers. if you do intend to upgrade to 4 new speakers, i reccomend Infinity. like cardude007617 said earlier, custom mounting 5.25s or 6.5s in the door will give you more clarity and depth. 6x9s i say Infinity as well. just make sure you get the earlier version of the refrence series...the ones that are 2 ohm wont work correctly....so look for 4 ohm models. if you do put new 6x9s in, you will notice that they have 2 connectors on the bottom of the speaker....cut those off, and attach the one that has Highs only. since you have JL subs, you wont need to have the bass. hopefully i summed up all that you need to know. if not, feel free to PM me, or continue asking questions. hopefully we all can stop fighting, and help a guy out. instead of arguing to see who has a better point. |

i still dont see how its that hard to push a button for what u want to do when the head unit is freaking pointed towards the driver even. and unless u get some amazingly compicated deck, finding what ever u need to do should just be memorized meanign u dont even have to look at the deck ever.....im 17 and i somehow manage without it.
but ya infinity is a good choice. get last year's 4ohm models, unless u want to amp your speakers which i semi plan on doing myself. the ones i got sound great off my headunit. just get decent stuff and you'll be happy for years to come

Well I like using the remote because I tend to skip songs a lot and I don't want to wear out the buttons on the faceplate. The buttons on my factory HU got scratched really easily.

i skip songs a lot too. but at least i got a pioneer where u switch songs by flicking the knob one way....not buttons so to speak that can wear out i guess. still dont see the point in paying 60 bucks for it tho

And do you really think that age matters? "Oh my gosh, your 17 and manage without steering wheel controls?!??! How do you do that!?!?!? That's simply ASTOUNDING!!!" Get the point? Last edited by Korben; 07-14-2007 at 06:10 AM. |
