is amping your speakers worth it and other questions

-hey all, im at the point where i can do a little upgrading with my system. as you can see in my profile, i have infinity reference speakers throughout. would it be worth amping my 5.25s and 6x9s. to avoid distortion i have my deck filter at 80hz which is above both of what these speakers can handle. looking on ebay i found a hifonics titan 4ch for around $150 shipped. or i saw a lanzar viberantmmon woofersetc for like 120
-i wouldnt need much wiring, only 2 RCAs, got somethin i can use for turnon, and a short power and ground that i can run to the distro block on my capacitor.
what's your opinion. i am open to other brands for amps as well the hifonics was merely an example and somewhere to start.
-cuz like my deck does 22RMS and my doors are 45 i belieive and my 6x9s are like 100RMS so they both are being underpowered by half to 80%.
-so ya any input would be awesome. i guess im just looking to balance out the sound and get the best out of the stuff i have.

thanks in advance guys

YES!!! the differnce is amazing. i just amped my g/f's car, and its crazy better. amps really bring out what your speakers can do. all you need is a small 4 channel amp. i got her a Alpine off ebay for about $50. its only 40x4, but you dont need a ton of power for smaller speakers.

^ What he said. I found a crappy little 250 watt old ass Mtx Amp in my sisters garage and hooked it to my 6.5's a long time ago and they SCREAMED. The Hi's weer so loud it was hurting my ears. Even a small crappy amp such as that, will make a huge difference.

I'm looking to do this too. I have a subwoofer wired to my amp, but it's not powerful enough for the sub. So I was going to use it for my 6x9s. But I'm not sure if it's too powerful or not. It's old. A sony 200WT something or other. What do you think?

knowing sony and how they over rate the specs, id say no it should be fine on aftermarket 6x9s.
my 5.25s are 45RMS (135MAX) and my 6x9s are 100RMS (150MAX). i guess i want more of a sound quality brand than a SPL brand cuz i have speakers that are more SQ than SPL. so any ideas with that one out

i have kinda narrowed it down to 2. a hifonics titan and a phoenix gold octane r series one. both are around 80RMS x4. any other options/opinions?

personally i'd get a 50x4. reason being is your fronts cant handle much more then that. not to mention thats where most of your sound comes from anyways. so i'd take care of those first, and your 6x9s second. your 6x9s will still sound a lot better, and you wont risk blowing your 5.25s.

i'd like to know what kind of 6x9s you have, and i'd like to see what the amps rms is. if its 100x2 then you'd probably be ok. if its 200x2, bad idea.

so really, more isnt better. but couldnt i just turn the gain down (well set the gain) to a good spot to not over power em?cuz these amps have 2 seperate gains for both channels; front/rear.
but if that is right, i could save a few bucks as well which is paul=happy

no. more isnt always better. the safe way is to get a smaller amp. if you do get the bigger amp, and set the gain wrong, your going to be screwed.

but its better to get a bigger amp and set the gain a little lower then it would be to get a small amp and set the gain to max only to have it underpower your speakers and wear them out faster

thats what im kinda leaning with too. the hifonics TXi 4406 and TXi 6406 on ebay are only like 16 bucks apart. haha, so i suppose the answer is semi- obvious isnt it? go with the 85 watt one to push my 6x9s better, and to have an even easier time with my 5.25s. metallman agree?

i know that this has been covered, but i feel like being a smart*** right now:

Q: is amping your speakers worth it?
A: is breathing worth it?

haha i get your point aaron. i guess this is more of a question of how much power is neccessary and what amp to go with. i now plan on doing it, i just im not sure what wattage to go with. more or is the lesser power one enough. personally, im leaning with a lil more power. but i just wanna know if its needed or not
