Coupe, what would you recommend? I have a 7 year old paint that has swirl marks, scratches, chips and it got a little swiped on my drivers side while I was at college. (stupid blond) Anyways, I'm starting to put in some loving care and was wondering what should be the steps to recondition?

Turtle Wax actually sent me a bunch of their new ICE line products (car wash, paste wax, liquid claybar, waterless carwash). I've used all of the items a couple times and I don't have anything negative to say about the products, except for the liquid claybar. What a joke! It says it rinses off.. nope, you have to rub it off, so you're essentially washing the car again. The wax is nice as it doesn't do the typical white residue (well not as much). The car wash soap does a good job of not spotting when it dries. I have hard water and spots are always a problem when I wash my vehicles.

I haven't been back on this site in forever which really is too bad but this stuff pissed me off enough that I came back on to write a review for anyone considering making the same mistake I made. I took a recommendation from my girlfriends dad on how "great" this stuff was (first mistake, i know) and bought some at Menards for 10 bucks because it was such a good price. Here are the list of reason not to use it:
1) It warns you not to use too much of it which is impossible to tell. There is no way to tell when it's dry except you can see where "too much" has been used and then when you "buff" it out it just gets streaky and you end up buffing the same spot for a while. (it says to use a wet rag to solve this problem but then why use the stuff in the first place?) 2) I am used to using Zymol which I love but it is a cleaner wax. This stuff is not so I hope there is not a single water spot on your car (I could have clayed my whole car but had just recently done it so I only did the hood and roof) because this stuff will just go right over it obviously so then you get nice water spots on your newly "waxed" car. I guess I'm just used to those spots fading away. Since i am also used to Zymol's ease of removal I was not prepared for the excessive buffing to remove some slime from my car (the "wax" that is) 3) It really doesn't do anything special on plastic besides make it a tad bit shinier if that. 4) When finished make sure not to touch your car anywhere because your fingers will be super greasy from this stuff and you'll leave finger/smudge prints everywhere. 5) I personally love the feel of a smooth car when you're done waxing...this will not give it to you, you'll get some nice smudge marks when you try and your fingers will just drag along as though you hadn't washed your baby in weeks. I would submit pictures but what this really do is just make your car look shiny so my pictures would just make my car look good...or as good as an 11 year old car can look. It really has the same effect of wiping down your dashboard with Armorall wipes because anything glossy looks better. I would personally rather have spent an extra half hour actually waxing my car and going back over the cracks with a soft toothbrush than using this stuff (it's doesn't leave white stuff in the cracks) . I am so unimpressed that if anyone in the Indianapolis, IN area (west side by Eagle Creek) wants this stuff let me know and you can come pick it up and take it off my hands (which have coincidently enough made my keyboard all greasy too, or maybe it's "waxed" now for protection). Maybe it's just my experience but I will never use this stuff again. Anyone else have a different opinion? |
