I'd rock it... I love the handling and space in the HHR, it was just too slow when I test drove it.

You're missing my point, my friend. Instead of just giving them a slight boost, how about actually making them impressive? The G6 GT has like 225 HP, the GTP has just over 250. Make the GTP have something like 275+, lower, some sort of lip kit, different spoiler, etc. I don't care if it costs more, just make it something really impressive.

I agree with you, the GXP line isn't that much more impressive, and I think Pontiac needs to step out and make it more agressive. I really want a G6 GXP for my next car (something about them I just like )..but it would be nice if it were putting down some better numbers. The small tweaks to the performance and appearance just aren't enough for the new badge imo.

Werd. I'd buy a G6 GTP/GXP if it were, say, boosted. That would be a killer car.

I just remember it being a very tight car, and when I went into turns there was little to no understeer.

I'm thinking of buying a HHR as a company vehicle, maybe I'll look into one of these SS models, the only problem is if this would be offered in the HHR Panel version. The Panel HHR is what I'm wanting to have as the company ride.

This car seems like a very good overall package now that it has a great motor. It would be near the top of my list if I needed a people mover. Hopefully they can keep the price around $22,500 because thats about what I'd be willing to pay.

Unfortunately, I'd be willing to bet that if its actually got any get up & go that it'll most likely be at least $25k. This will probably be in the same class as the Mazdaspeed 3 and the proposed new WRX wagon, and that $25k is about what those are going for...... then mark it up another couple grand for realism at a dealership.

its funny how i designed a HHR SS for a custom shop and then this shows up on the net about 3 months after they submitted it to GM

even looks a bit like the kit and grill i drew "Maybe just a coincidense, but its strange "!

Latest photos from Death Valley capture a prototype of the 2008 Chevy HHR SS. The prototype has a completely new front bumper, with a large under-bumper opening feeding air to the turbo’s intercooler. The bumper differs from the standard HHR’s design in that this one is shaped more like an air dam, decreasing the amount of turbulent air that gets pushed under the vehicle when driven at speed. The new design also gets rid of the ugly rectangular “bumperettes” that are part of the retro styling of the standard model. Tires are low-profile Michelin’s on alloy wheels, mounted to a firmed-up, sport suspension.

Engine is reportedly the 2.0 liter direct injected Ecotec Turbo also used on the Pontiac Solstice GXP and Saturn Sky Red Line. In those vehicles the turbocharged and intercooled engine puts out a healthy 260 horsepower. Four-wheel disk brakes with ABS are standard. Transmission will be a five-speed using a short throw shifter. Interior amenities include special seats with the SS logo, and a turbo boost gage mounted on the driver’s A-pillar.

Look for the new SS to be added to the HHR lineup this fall as a 2008 model.

However the Colbalt, Impala, HHR, and Trailblazer can all back up there SS badge so I for one don't have a problem with it. Really looking forward to checking out the HHR SS!
The malibu with the upcoming high feature V8 in the 2008 STS would make it a worthy SS.

I think the HHR SS looks pretty slick. More appealing for sure!

so with this coming out as a 2008 model, does that mean the new colbalt SS will be coming out too?

A v-8 malibu? Are you S***n me? Thats nuts!

GM really needs to focus more on making fast 4 bangers than throwing more v-8's in models during times in which when gas is considered "cheap" at $250/gallon!

The cool thing about this HHR SS is if you look at the Solstice GXP's fuel economy it gets better fuel economy than the base 2.4 model, so I imagine in a FWD setup we may be seeing fuel economy numbers at something like 26 - 34! not too bad for 260hp motor!

Where Chrysler 'only' managed another special edition of their retro car, GM pulled all the stops and released the much anticipated Chevrolet HHR SS. The turbocharged retro-styled car comes with a 2.0 liter Ecotec (turbocharged and intercooled) engine producing 260hp with 353 Nm torque, the same engine found in the Pontiac Solstice GXP and Saturn Sky. GM Performance Division developed a new FE5 Sport suspension, developed and tuned at the Nurburgring, for the latest addition to the SS line-up.

The exterior remains mostly the same as the non-turbocharged version, with some unique features like a new front and rear fascia, rear spoiler and new rocker moldings. Inside, the HHR SS received sport seats, new gauge cluster and a new steering wheel.

“Beginning with HHR SS, all future SS models will have superior power, braking and handling capabilities for maximum credibility with our customers and enthusiasts alike,” said John Heinricy, GM Performance Division executive. The fact that they set a record lap time for its class should speak volumes, beating the Opel Zafira OPC by a good 10 seconds.
