ok first off Mike is correct, the new yellow tops DO NOT fit our cars.
Second i think caps are worthless. there like putting a band-aid on a gunshot wound. AJ if i were you i'd hook it all up and see just how hard you have to push it to get your lights to dim enough to anoye you. if its not that bad and you can deal with it, then do so.

but if you look at the specs on optima's site; the D34/78 and the D75/25 are both the same size. so they WILL fit right? but the D34/78 is the "better" battery being a lil bigger and high CCA and reserve power so if you can; get that one correct?

no, no, no. they will NOT fit. trust me, when my redtop took a sh*t this spring, i tried to upgrade to a yellow top. the new ones WILL NOT FIT. no ands, ifs, or buts about it. you have to modify the tray.
also a deep cycle battery has nothing to do with "reserve power" when the car is running. only when its off, you get more run time. so unless you do a lot of shows, or use your sterio alot with the engine off, you dont need a deep cycle. the reason i tried to get one is cause my voltage is so low at idel from my HO alternator. its like the blind leading the blind in here.

well yeah, i know a deep cell will only help when the car is off. and im aware of you have to cut the tray.
but how much do you have to cut the tray to get it to fit?

The battery's life in-terms of time, will be better of served with an Optima YellowTop (vs an Optima RedTop) battery. When your system hits hard: Even with the car running, it WILL take some juice from the battery. This is where a deep cycle battery will last longer; as it is made to be drained & recharged. Because a starting battery (like: Optima RedTop) does not like to be drained (ever); or it WILL die faster/prematurely. Just the one end of the battery tray has to be trimmed off to fit an Optima BCI Group size 78, IIRC. Metallman56: What size of Optima YellowTop did you try (BCI group size 78 or 75) ? Because the BCI Group size 75 should fit; as that is our stock size.

what are you talking about? both red and yellow tops are side posts. what does that have to do with anything?
there are better batterys then optamas. but for the price, i'm happy with what i got.

I have a 78 size batt in my car after I replaced my old 75, and I trimmed the tray.
It fits in there really snug, but it fits. Only problem is that I managed to blow my inline fuse. Now I bought a little more beefy [ok, when i say a little i mean a lot] http://s43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...t=CIMG1067.jpg http://s43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...t=CIMG1068.jpg The right is the one I blew. The left is the new one. http://s43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...t=CIMG1070.jpg closeup -.- Was kinda nasty looking when still in the engine bay, haha. but anyway. The 78 I got was from uhm.. Autozone, was their Duralast Gold or whatever. It has a higher CCA rating than Optima Yellowtop (it was 800 CCA), and hey.. the salesman there told me it would be powerful enough for ANY sound system out there! Yeah f'ing right. I can't even get my volume up past 1/3 before my amp cuts out from low voltage. not to mention my car looks like a laser light show ![]() |
