Indeed, your BMW is a very classy car and ought to be nearly as fast as a 3.4L GAGT. However, if you bought it for financial reasons, I'm afraid you may have made a mistake. If something goes wrong, it'll cost a lot more to get fixed than it would with a Grand Am. You assume that nothing will go wrong; however, this paticular BMW actually scored a lower reliability rating (with "Significant" engine problems) than the 2002-2004 MY Grand Ams, and ranked the same reliability rating as the '97-2001 MY Grand Ams. It also earned the same score as the '93 MY Grand Am. If the A/C goes out, it's going to cost you a lot more to get it recharged since it requires R-12 refrigerant which is no longer being manufactured. The fact that the hood is off leads me to suspect it's been in some sort of accident which may mean there's hidden damage that may become a problem down the road.

Hopefully, nothing will go wrong with this car and it will serve you well, and the front engine/rear drive setup will make for slightly better handling characteristics over the GAGT...but when it comes to reliability, I honestly don't think this paticular BMW is any more reliable on average than a Grand Am and will require more expensive parts to maintain and repair.

flame me too but i'd rather have my 01 GA than that also.. you're not an idiot because you prefer one car over another no matter who makes it. I'd rather have my GA than Brendan's new redline but that doesnt make either one of us an idiot.

You can say that all day and your not gonna convice him that he didnt get out of owning a **** car! He owed way more on his GA than it was worth to anyone and got out of it without taking a hit at all since they bought it for what he still owed. He just had to replace the transmission in his grand am back at thankgiving time so since then the car has not been deemed a cheap car to fix!

I personally don't really care what he drives, the BMW is a nice car for its age and if it gets him outta debt, I'm happy with it! Now the fact that I can't drive a manual and therefor can't move the car when I need to get mine outta the driveway is a little annoying but other than that I think he made the right decision on gettin rid of the GA.

I'd rather just bitch about it being in my way. I have better things to do at 6am than push a car!

I'm just saying, there's no guarantees that the Bimmer is going to be any better, considering the reliability ratings it got. The GA may not be a cheap car to fix, but if that's a bone of contention, then going with the BMW won't make that aspect any better.

However, I sincerely hope that the BMW serves him well for many years without incident.

hey just saw this.. I'll refrain from my share of the yellow vinyl/tips comments..

Congrats, Tony! I love those years! Those rims are so ugly tho, IMO. Now it's time to teach Amber how to drive it haha.

digitalquirk...man, that guy is the first and only "dumb focking redneck" I ever knew lived north of the American border. I didn't know that was possible.

he had his head so far up the GM / UAW OShawa a$$hole...he could spit cheap interiors and unpainted side mirrors.

2.5 yrs, all I have done is broke the clutch plate But it was might fault, racing it in the country. It sits over the winter and always fires right up. I'd put it up against any grand am, for reliability. And stock speed
