My new old car, lots of wetsanding & buffing (56k, no way)

1994 Corsica, lots of wetsanding & buffing (56K is a no go)

Picked up this little piece for dirty dirty cheap. All it needs is a lower intake gasket, no biggie. So I decided to recondition it, maybe I can sell it for a good price.

This is what I started with it:

Engine cowl before:

Candy? What the….

After (not very good after pics):

Engine bay before:

After:

The next thing to do was remove the pin-stripes, I hate those with a passion. I ran into a problem though like usual. The passenger side fender was re-sprayed with clear, the only problem is they sprayed OVER the stripes and then re-applied the stripes over top of that. Kinda funny to remove the pin stripes but they are still there

Removed by hand, residue removed with paint thinner:

On to the claying. It was obvious this vehicle had never been clayed….or even waxed.
This is ONLY a 1’x1’ section of the hood, the whole car was the same. This car single handedly trashed a 100 gram mothers clay bar, it was tossed after its job was done.

This is where things took a big turn. I did my usual half and half hood buff out, it did not go well.

I hit it with:
Optimum Hyper Compound
Edge yellow wool pad
Makita Rotary
2000 rpms

It took many passes to remove what was there. So I decided to wetsand the rest of the vehicle……..every panel.

The fenders didn’t need so much aggression so I hit them same way I hit the hood. This is what I ended up with, fenders and hood:

Drivers side door before
2500 grit
I hit it with:
Optimum Hyper Compound
Edge yellow wool pad
Makita Rotary
2000 rpms

edge blue
Optimum Hyper Compound
1500 rpms

Optimum Blue pad
Optimum polish
1000 rpms
