That's a bad idea. If you remove the second O2 sensor, removing those codes is fine. The first O2 sensor is your primary one that the pcm uses for fueling corrections though when not in power enrichment mode (WOT). Though the heater performance isn't as critical as the other codes for it, it still lets you know something is not working as it should with that sensor. You should fix the problem. Not just turn off the code an ignore it.

I replaced the sensor, checked the entire circuit at the time. Nobody else could figure it out either. It appeared to be happening simply because the headers and exhaust had been changed, but who knows? The sensor and circuit function were otherwise unaffected, so I chose the expedient route. If I ever de-mod the car, I'll check and see if the code goes away.

The PCM measures the amount of time needed for the O2 sensor to heat up and start operating properly from a cold start. If it doesn't heat up fast enough or if it doesn't fluctuate fast enough, then it will trigger a DTC.

This has me wondering, what year O2 sensor are you using? If it's not for an 01 or newer GA, then it will trigger this DTC.

i have no clue on the year of the o2 sensor. i went to my parts store last year told that what i needed, they handed me the part.

i wonder, as a test, if i should take a blow torch to the pipe at start up. see if that clears it,

I would definitely check on that. If they gave you an older O2 sensor then that would cause your problem. It's easy to do because both have the same connector but with different pin layouts.

Check your current sensor first. Verify that the wire pinout at the connector before getting a new sensor.

O2 sensor 99-00 vs. 01+
