Flowmaster 42583 install question

well i got my wife the flowmaster 42583 for her car, cuz that seems like the one so many people on here use. but when i took it to the garage they told me it won't work and gave me a bunch of crap about it being too quiet with this muffler. i tried to explain to them that alot of people use this muffler on this car and it sounds good but he still wouldn't believe me. he also said he didn't have time to install it the day that i took it in cuz of the work that would be involved.

ok so here is my question when you had your muffler installed did you leave the stock piping? or did you have it replaced with 2.5" pipe? and if anyone has any pics of it installed, could you please post them. or if anyone knows of any pics please link me to them.

thanks for any possible info

oh yeah and my wife would really like to keep the stock tips if possible. is there and way to save them or are there some similar looking after market ones?

I would replace with the 2.5" piping and post a vid or a sound bite when you're done. I'de like to hear the sound of it.

when i first put my flowmaster on i left the stock piping on and then later bought the slp kit just for the pipes. dont think you can keep the stock tip cause one side each tip has its own pipe. its not 2 to1 liike the other side.

how did it sound with the stock pipe? and i know this may sound stupid but what is the slp kit? sorry this isn't my car i don't know a whole lot about it.

and i really don't think i will be going with 2.5" pipe, i just don't have the money right now but maybe sometime down the road.

the slp kit is 2.5 from the cat with all the piping you need and a muffler and some tips i just didnt use thier muffler and tips since i already had the flowmaster. it got a little louder after the slp. it sounded pretty good with just the flowmaster, i think i had it on for a year or little more.
its the same thing as this pretty much just to give you an idea what it is. just not as high of a quality of metal.

Wow no offense man, i was going to get an 80 series for my alero but after hearing that i don't think so. It sounded nice at low RPM's but once you got up there the rasp was just way to much; it was like it lost all of its potential.

didnt like the SLP muffler from all the clips i heard and alot of people said it sounded raspy up in the revs. i liked the flowmaster sound that's why i went with it from the get go.
the muffler in the clips is an 80 series. as far as im concerned th slp muffler is going in the trash unless someone buys it.

trust me it doesnt get raspy when you rev it. part of the sound is my camera, its not a dedidcated video camera. its just a regular picture camera that shoots ok video.

Nevermind my previous statement, anacona that actually sounds very nice. How is the interior resonace on long trips though does it kindof drone or no? The only reason I'm afraid of getting a aftermarket muffler is my friend has a vorteck muffler on his explorer it sound great and everything but, i went up North with him and on the freeway the drone wsa just killin my ears.

stock gt is 2 1/4 and the muffler is 2 1/2 youll need some sort of reducer or if you have the money get 2 1/2 cat back. i got mandrel bends off of ebay for the tip section of pipe.
