Sounds good. When they repeat, can a 12.9 be repeated by a 13.1 or do both have to be within .2 in the 12s?

Is this contest already going, or is there a start time for it. Not all of us can make it to the track over the winter months. There is roughly a month left when tracks are still open and then everything is closed until at least march.

My point is, I don't care about the rules. If Milzy steps up and wins it by by shipping his car to where he can race in January, fine. Folks in the Grand Prix community are getting into the 9's and the Grand Am community may never make it there due to the lack of competition. Oh, and I did put money up, and I may likely put more in.
Honestly, I do intend to win, but all the last second rules seems as if I will have to spend a decent amount of cash to change things. Regardless, I will be in the 12's this upcoming year. If I don't with this due to a technicality, then "oh well".

When we were putting something together a few years ago for the 60V6 community (which died after a few months), the main stipulation was weight. Honestly, I could care less what the car looks like inside and out. You can strip it all you like, but you are still required to meet a minimum weight. And I'm not sure taking the weight limits from the NHRA rule book is the place to start. Take the currently fastest car here (Spy), subtract 100lbs and start from there. He has 1 power adder (I think), so the baseline would be Spy's weight minus 200lbs. That should level the playing field pretty easily.
As far as some of the other rules... I just don't see the exhaust rules really being required. Who cares where the exhaust exits the car, or if the person is running a cutout or not. Same goes with the body panels and such. If you set a weight limit, there really isn't much that is going to be able to be accomplished at still meet the minimum weight. If someone decided to gut the car completely, and then ballast around the front wheels for traction, then so be it. That person is thinking "outside the box" and therefore has a competitive advantage. Also, the majority of the people who will be competing in this competition aren't going to convert their car into a full-out race car. Mike is a possible exception, since he is already going that route. I'll see if I can't find some time to read through some of the rules posts and throw something together for people to ponder. |

If you guys are all agreeing about the exhaust should be anything goes, than so be it. The NHRA weight rules, are pretty fair, I'm not even making minimum weight for that. To the people that are interior gut happy, how about we do it this way. Anything frome the B-pillar back can be torn the **** out?

A fully legit street car is also a term that can be seen in many ways. Some people don't mind driving around with roll cages but I wouldn't call that a pure street car. A lot of people are removing the A/C too, but IMO you are removing factory equipment that is meant for a true "street car" purely for the purposes of making it faster (ie racing), and therefore shifting the focus from street driving. Removing A/C, or interior parts, or a whole bunch of tricks, are part of that ingenuity you mentioned that makes it possible to go faster. If all you are looking for is to hit a time, you should be allowed to do anything to your car that you are comfortable with. As Todd put it, the people in the GP community are running 9's, while we are still much slower. I'd like to point out of course that those 9 sec cars are full race cars and not street-able or street legal. The GP's that are true street cars and not undependable and quirky as hell are running a full 2-3 seconds slower. Personally I like to keep my car well rounded. If I do that and never run a 12 sec ET, I don't really care. If someone wants to run a 12 that bad though and decides to take an extreme or unorthodox method to do it, they shouldn't be disqualified from your little competition because they decided to do it a different way than you. As you said it's time for people to step up their game, so let them do whatever they want I say!

Another stipulation, if it hasnt been mentioned already. In order to win the prize you must put a minimum of $50 into the pot.

here's the thing.. originally I put up the initial $50 to whoever can hit 12's... so it doesn't matter if you put in cash or if you don't... if you do put in cash, you're just putting your money where your mouf is.

i guess it just means in the grand am community the there's no replacement for displacement chit chat is b/s. when you see cobalts in street trim running mid 10's, fully battle clad driven 500+ miles civic hatches and coupes running anywhere from 9's to low 11's with blown motors under 2.4L's, 3000+lb all modifications involved ONLY involving engine EVOs and scoobies running 10's... and all this talk of the 3.4 being big dog status (but nobody really going balls out) ..........and dont' give me this **** about, oh those motors have so much backing. the guys that take it to the next level, tend to use one off ****, not off the shelf ****. building a stout high power motor is building a stout high power motor. dude *smallest fiddle ever*................................. Apples to oranges dude. Comparing them is stupid... you aren't really that stupid are you? And actually, a lot of evo's and subaru's can run tens with off the shelf parts, not custom. I do read up on other cars. You can't compare what someone else is doing though with a totally different drive train, chassis, and engine design. Quote:

Not to be a **** or anything Aaron, but this is a competition for those in the quarter mile. This isn't AutoX. This is for making a GA/Alero fast, not for taking a 90* turn at over 40 mph.

jeez....if you're putting up money, or competing for the prize, by all means, put in your two cents, if not, then let the big boys hash this out and stfu.

For the rest of you, best of luck, and if we get more people into the 12's as a result, I call that a win for the whole community.

Ya know that's a good idea. I think I will put money up. My problem with this whole thing is after a lot of people other than spy started putting money up for grabs (including our sponsors) this stopped being just Spy's little competition as he put it. Yet he seems to think he's the only one with anything to say about it. You haven't been around here long enough to know, but spy likes to talk a lot of **** about v6's and it irritates some people. So here's what I'll do. I'll throw $50 into the pot for the first new person to run a 12 sec ET in a 99+ n-body. I don't care how you do it as long as you can prove it.... but it's gotta be a V6! Just to shut spy up. And if you can beat spy's best time and take over top dog spot on this site... I'll throw in another $50. How's that.

I know how spy is about V6's. even though I may not have spoken up in this particular forum all that often, I do read it a little bit here and there...... and I find his **** talking to be nothing more than 2 things:
1) a friendly challenge to get the V6's to compete with him since he's currently fastest 2) inspire others with the 4-bangers not to feel that their cars can't be powerful. I just wanna say thanks to you and everyone else that put into the pot. I dont necessarily expect to win it, I still have alot of work to do on a limited budget. But it is definitely inspiring to get people off their asses and make some progress.
