I really don't want to start this again... but thats not whats on the gm powertrain site. All the MN5's I found where 3.15 or 3.29 and thats what the factory manual says as well for V6 cars. If it had a 4 cyl in it, it was MN4 and had 3.05... again, thats what I found on the site after 30min of searching. Got a link to something different?

Yeah. That is exactly what is in 3rd link above. I'm thinking I'm gonna have to build a nice PRO code database...

Yeah, you're right... there was no 3.15. I couldn't find anything on the powertrain site with the final drive for the 45E so I took a quick look in the manual and must've read a number wrong. It's 3.05 and 3.29. Most of the stuff on the powertrain site only gives the 1-4 and reverse ratios but no final drives. IE like this page 2001 transmissions. The only thing I could find anywhere that gave the 4T40E final drive was here2001 malibu specs
The 3rd link you posted has about the most info on them I've seen so far for both tranny's. It still doesn't say though which final ratios are available in which trans, or if the 4T45E came with both. Can't seem to find any documents really that say the 45 could come with a 3.05, or assigning an RPO code to the drive ratio's. About the only way we know it did is that we know the GASE came with a 3.05 final drive, and you've proved that the V6 engined SE had the 4T45E trans and the RPO code for it. GM sure makes it murky sometimes, huh? I know I'm confused. ![]()

Still don't know where bu01 got 3.42 from though, unless he was talking about the manual trans, which I highly doubt any parts from that would transfer over. None of the auto's had a 3.42 ratio. You could get that as an effective final drive by changing the sprockets and chain, but you could also get higher than that if you want.
Here's the real question... why does the manual list all those different final effective ratios? Wouldn't they all come with the same sprockets and same chain from the factory?... and if a tech was repairing the trans wouldn't he repair it to original factory specs? If he started changing drive ratio's wouldn't that require computer programming, or possibly throwing off the speedometer/odometer? I'm not really too sure about this. I haven't looked into changing the drive ratio's and where the speed sensor takes it's reading from etc. I know there's a sensor for trans input speed and output speed, that's about it.

GAGT - Moneyless

(bringing back from the dead) I've seen a picture (its not the bettyracer one) where they swapped a 3.8 supercharged into a GAGT. He said they used two PCMs wired together, The stock one for the BCM and stuff like that, and the other to run the motor. Could this be done with the transmission somehow.

Sure. Especially if you got one of the tranny controllers from either TCI, Comp, or PCS. You'd still have to have the inputs going to the PCM, just have any outputs coming from the standalone controller.

Actually, that car was an entire GTP drivetrain swap. It had the 3800SC with the 4T65HD trans in it. The reason he had to use two pcms was so the stock one could communicate with the stock gauge cluster and BCM.

thats what i'm talking about, i wonder if you could use two PCMs one running car and one running tranny but linked together somehow. But, reprogramming is probably the best way to go. i searched MMS and found the WHOLE 3400 45e to 65HD swap including tranny and everything required for the swap for $3,500.

He hasn't got it running yet though as far as I know. Not sure how close he is yet, but I have seen the car when he first put the 4T65HD in there with the 3400 and had the custom trans mounts made.
