Winter Wonder Land Takes Yet Another Victim...

Here are some pics of the aftermath. I haven't even tried opening the hood yet. The trunks been affected alignment wise as well because it doesn't open smoothly either. I was going over a bridge and hit a ice patch sending me into the guardrail on the oppistie side of the road. Just coasted to a stop in the ditch before limping it over to the other side with the shoulder to make things less difficult on the cops/tow truck. Donut was only put on do to the blown out tire pictured. Also must have punctured the rear one in the process as its almost flat. The control arms are busted, not to mention brake lines and other things that isn't visible at first. Just glad i didn't get hurt in it.

Sure looks like it; but no.

Kumho Ecsta AST High Performance All-Season tires

Still, by the looks of that tread design; I wouldn't use it during the winter time.

If it helps, i'll post up links to the pics. They're on my photobucket. The tires were "all season" but i currently started a new job to finish paying off parts for it and new tires, and the winter weather kind of hit unexpectedly per say. I don't have many pics of the car before the accident, was meaning to but was busy working in the shop and working at the new job. Knowing the insurance company, they totaled out a 06 Crew Cab Dodge 3500 Cummins with only 35,000 miles on it with similar damage, but it was still drivable, so it may come down to them totaling it out. Main thing about it is the car is replaceable, and i came out without injuries. Insurance company will be called in the morning to decide what happens to the car. If its totaled out, i have custom sub boxes that fit around the spare tire hole that will be for sale, but i won't know until it happens. Anyways, i changed my setting on photobucket to public so the address to the page with the pictures is http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y255/klatt_89/
Thanks for the replies.

On the set up for Turbo/intercooler, i'd just been talking to a few members about how they done their set ups, and built up my own in shop. I didn't bother taking pictures then because i didn't have a camera readily available, and now the hood i'm leaving closed until they come and look at it, no use in opening it and it not being able to be shut again. A few pics show how the fender went up into the hood, mainly the tire was pressing up on it when all was said and done. Only a few things are holding it on there from when i took the tire off, either way the car was sitting like that when i was parked on the side waiting for the cop to show up.

I can say i never want to take it again, thats for sure. There was the sound of the suspension parts breaking then the crunching of metal and then the dragging of the underframe on the road as the tire was being cut by the fender, happened pretty quick.
The turbo project was something i hadn't ever posted on, just asked questions of members that had done it. Kinda a secret project, figured post the aftermath of the wreck.

Thanks on the comment about my gf/fiancée. She's glad i wasn't hurt in it. It does suck that another red coupe got hurt in it, and maybe lost do to the damages depending on the insurance company. It was a pretty expensive ride but a life is worth more than a money figure or a car to say the least.

Damn man..I hit some black ice yesterday..almost had one of these threads. It seems everybody has more ice/black ice this time of year than usual.

I'll be interested to hear the final verdict on it. While we wait, did you ever dyno it? I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting to know what kind of numbers it puts down.

At least you didn't have to have one of these threads. They're sending out a adjuster in the next few days. I'm pretty sure there is quite a bit of frame damage and other damage that aren't shown in the pictures, i'd hate to say it but i'm almost just wanting it totaled out because even if they do fix it, it would never handle nor drive the same. The rear tires almost flat so i'm guessing that there is some damage back there thats not visible, knowing that tire got slammed that suspensions also gonna be tweaked. I'm almost contemplating going down and taking the donut off and seeing what all is visible there. Its only 6 blocks away from my house. I would open the hood but knowing it may not shut i'll just wait til the adjuster is there. On the dyno, i never had a chance to take it there. It was pretty impressive but i only had it completed this past week so final tweaks were being made. Had to call in Sunday and explain the situation to my manager and they were just glad i was safe. If it is totaled out, Friday is a day off til 4:30 so it may be time to shop by then. I'll keep you updated on the status and verdict of the adjuster. A majority of its going to come down to the frame and other damage not visible from the outside. Positive side of things i'm safe and i have a girl thats there to take care of me. The car is parked across the street from a white 03 Grand Am GT with way more miles then mine thats for sale for what i paid for mine last year. Guess time will tell if its totaled out or not.
