shhhhhhhhhh1t, I just read on Corvette Forums that this car is probably going to sell for $150-175K. MSRP will be about $100K, but only 1500 a year will be made. One salesman on there said he asked his manager what the expected markup will be, and he didn't divulge, but he did say; "put it this way, I'll equal my 2007 year to day with one ZR1 sale".

Ridiculous still. For that kind of cash why not a Ferrari or something more prestigious then? I mean, I love the ZR-1 and all but I thought the whole point was to provide a domestic "supercar" for a fraction of the price of an exotic?

Not that I'd ever buy one but it still leaves a sour taste in my mouth although it's not TOTALLY unexpected. I mean still believes that the gneral public is going to purcahse it's Malibus, G6, Auras, et al. at a higher price over any of the offerings from the Toyota, Honda or Nissan camps....

I doubt it will be that much. Don't get me wrong, it will be expensive (the brakes alone cost a LOT!), but it should be at a reasonable price point above the Z06. It ight be marked up a bit when they first come out since everyone will want one, but if you wait a bit the price will come down, it will still be way less than a ferrari but deliver more performance.

Personally I never really cared about the "prestige" of a name. I'd rather pay for hard numbers. That's the same problem with porsches... sure they are great cars, but not worth what they cost. Not even close. Anyway, here's another "supercar" vette for you guys to check out. Not produced by GM, but with very close ties... http://www.corvetteracing.com/histor.../racing5.shtml

Saw that one a while ago. I would say that 80% of C5/C6 derivatives are fockin' awesome. An 8.2L block though...goddamn.

I'll take pics of the first ZR-1 I come across and post them up; there are bound to be a few in this area after they're released.

At the airport this morning, I noticed almost every car mag this month has the ZR1 on the cover! My only gripe with it is that every one has the blue car as the car in the article. I don't mind blue in fact some cars look great in it however that Gunmetal/anthracite color that is also available is SO hot looking! Too bad THAT wasn't the press car....I know, I know code name "blue devil" and all but the other color FTW.

I don't mind the blue, but the chrome wheel sh1t needs to go. Chrome looks good on black and silver, otherwise buh bye.

I agree...the chrome would look great on a black one but its too flashy when combined with the blue. Initially I thought that the carbon ceramic rotors were "similar" to the Enzo brakes in composition etc. However, the article in Motor Trend is saying that these literally ARE the Enzo brakes.
Even the people out there who don't like Corvettes HAVE to be impressed by the specs, the technology and general attention to detail. I was expecting them to do a Z06 with a low compression motor and a blower but they did so much more. The price point is steep(even without dealer gouging) but as with everything you gotta pay to play. I really wish they could get away with selling it for $85K though.

I keep looking at this and thinking it's a Z06.

WTF is it? It says Zr1 on the vid but ppl are stupid. Not to mention no dual side vents or CF top. Nor glass window...my bets on a Z06.

I think it's a Z06 too...might be modified, because a couple times I thought I heard the whistle of a turbo or S/C when it was at top gear....

While I'm sure some are accounted for, GM is actually being somewhat fair about who gets them- they obviously want them to end up in the hands of the public, not just friends of GM execs. That being said, from what I understand, they are determining what dealers get how many based on Corvette sales.

Agreed. I immediately didn't like the chrome the first time I saw them.

i'm sure i'm gonna get ripped in half for saying that, but again, i do love it. and i'd love to own one.

Think about it for a minute on what it would take to build a N/A small block that produces over 600 HP, your looking at a radical cam, high compression ( 10.0 to 1 or even 11.0 to 1) high flow heads and intake manifold, tuned exhaust headers.
The biggest problem with this is the lack of vacuum at idle due to the rough idle this type of engine would have, there would be a pretty nice lope to the idle. This type of an engine would be a torque monster but for a street driven car it wouldn't be doscile for everyday. With the supercharger the engine can have a lower compression ratio because the boost created by the supercharger will bring that up close to 10.0 to 1 or a little more, while being doscile enough for a daily driver. Fuel mileage doesn't hurt as bad with doing a supercharger over building a N/A 600 HP small block.

On several of the older big blocks Chevy built, they underestimated the HP and torque due to insurance companies, the 427 was rated at 425 but dyno results show more, closer to 460 HP at the flywheel. But as emission started coming into play all the smog equipment hurt HP ratings, since reduction of NOX and carbon dioxide were more important than HP. As the years have gone on they've found out how they can incorporate nice HP numbers and still have a cleaner running engine.

Got this today...

Quote:
By Scott Burgess
April 25, 2008

The 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1's supercharged V-8 officially produces 638-horsepower, General Motors Corp. executives announced today. GM completed SAE certification of the ZR1's 6.2-liter LS9 engine and released the results at midnight.

The final tally: 638 horses and 604-pound-feet torque and blistering top speed of 205 mph.
The ZR1 will be built at the Bowling Green Assembly Plant in Kentucky, home to the regular Corvette and Z06.

The LS9 engine will be hand built at GM's Performance Build Center in Wixom.
With a 0-60 time besting the Corvette Z06's 3.7 seconds, the ZR1 enters supercar territory with its power and quickness.

Final numbers have not been released.

The engine's power comes from the four-lobe Roots-type supercharger, the first production application of it.

This premium 'Vette should cost around $100,000 and includes a carbon fiber hood, fenders and parts of the roof -- helping the supercar lose some of its weight.

GM plans to sell 2,000 ZR1s each year after they arrive in dealerships this summer.
