GM has the worst taste in wheels, that would probably look better with the GTO stock 18s

and why would they turn this car into a rental fleet whore...way to go killing resale value

nice car I wouldn't buy one new though wait a year and pick one up for 20k...good to see they're finally getting with the program and including bluetooth and navigation one thing I thought the GTO really needed

They really should have kept Olds around strictly for rental cars. Or make a new brand one just for rentals. Let people not take a huge hit on resale, and have a little pride in the cars they own.

so this car basically turned into the same concept of the new charger? Rental fleet....oh well, wouldn't expect anything more from gm.

Those rims look like they're missing the centercaps or something. I really like the look of the car though and I agree with the Acura TL comment.

Not sure if this will evewn be available in Canada. It's being handled just like the GTO, so it could mean U.S. only.

G8 GXP will probably come in 2009. It will have the LS3 from the base Vette/Camaro Z28.

There are no real words spoken as to this becoming a rental whore, but it's obvious it will be. Something will need to replace the Grand Prix for that size vehicle in the rental companies who carry Pontiacs

It will be available in Canada. It's listed as G8 Coming Soon in the Pontiac section on the gmcanada website.

Other than the power of the engine, Im not suprised w/ its under par amenities.
Looks decent though, wonder if it ages horribly like all the other Pontiacs.

I don't see it as a rental car here's why:

GP= ancient FWD platform and powertrain built in North America.

G8= new RWD platform and modern powertrain imported from halfway around the world. Don't bet on seeing it at Enterprise anytime soon.

The G6 is already out on rental lots offering as much space as a GP with the cheap mechanicals and FWD layout, there is no need to replace the GP in rental fleets.

And the rental fleet companies disagree with you, because they're in teh business to make money and they'll feel no guilt ripping you off for a "full size" (G8) sedan compared to a "midsize" (G6), when in reality they are almost similar in interior volume.

Just the name of the vehicles alone provides a perception one is more "high class" and "larger" than the other.

i think you guys are jumping the gun assuming it will be a rental car. one thing will determine if it will be a fleet whore...sales. if it sells well then GM wont need to whore them out to rental fleets. at least for the fist year, GM will still make the GP strictly for that purpose. all years after it will depend on sales.

hey, does the lotus elise seem like a rental whore? well when i worked for Enterprise we have a few of them. we also had Escalades, XLR, Lexus, Volvo, Mercedes and a BMW 3-series. no doubt some of these will make it into fleets, but if they are considered a luxury type of car then it might not hurt the cars value.

i agree with you guys on everything else. the wheels are fugly, interior is still less than par, but far greater than the gp and other current GMs. keep in mind its a $30k car with over 300 hp, people arent buying it expecting a Cadillac interior.

i've wanted this car since i saw it at the chicago show.. but now, i don't think i could do 15/24 MPG

and as for rentals, wouldn't they use the v6 for rental cars? v8s would hold their value a little better? or no?

Check this link out http://www.g8board.com/forums/showthread.php?t=605

The 888 has to do with the first 0-888 series numbered cars. They will have a special "serial numbering" if you will to commemorate the first ones made and shipped to the US.

I remember how the G6 was anticipated and touted by some of the GM powers that be here. Needless to say I think the car has fallen on its face and done zero. It's nothing more than a rental fleet car. It has no where near the presence the Grand Am did/still does.

I still love the G6 coupe, but the sedan just blends into the crowd.

The mistake with the G6 was making it too big yet keeping the same crappy powertrain from the GA at launch. Why the GP was given a redesign in '04 only to have a similarly sized G6 show up a year later is still a mystery to me. The Pontiac brand has had terrible management over the past decade and is still stumbling (G5 and Torrent have no reason to exist).

Anybody who would rather have a G6 over a G8 is clearly a fan of dull everyday FWD transportation and does not appreciate RWD performance. It's the same argument I have for someone who chooses a Lexus ES 350 over an IS 350.
