Stock and stock. A/C delco plugs work great for all but highly modified cars, and the stock plugs wires are fine. GM designed a really good ignition system for the grand am and they don't require upgrading.

& don't use Taylor spark plug wires; as some have found out they misfire often.

As for spark plug brand names, I would suggest: AC Delco or NGK.

What about msd wires? Does it really make a difference with them being 8.5 mm? I've been told ac delco are perfectly fine, but I've noticed a lot of people using msd wires. They're about the same price I believe at auto parts train. I was just about to buy a set of the msd wires. Would that possibly be a bad idea then?

That's what I'll probably end up doing. Think I should stay with the ac delco plugs? I was thinking ngk v-power series possibly.

spark plug wires

I have had the car 1 month now, but it does have 100K miles on it. I want to replace all the parts that go into a "tune up" so I know I am starting with a clean slate. I see ALOT of people here who have the MSD 8.5 wire set. Without getting into the brand or the cost, what do the thicker wires do for you?
Thanks,
Dave.

the ignition system on our cars are very good systems so there is no need for after market wires unless you want them in a certain color (blue or red)

I appreciate all the help. People either go for stock or the MSD's. Both sides make good arguments for both. I just dont understand what a 8.5 mm wire will do that 7.0 mm wont do. Is there a stronger spark? Is there better combustion? It has to be something more than just red wires???

You won't see any performance gains weather you use all stock parts or not.

We have pretty much already told you, a couple times.

People who buy MSD or Taylor wires do it for the color of them, gives the engine bay a little color, they dont help with performance.

People who buy them for performance are just ignorant.

All is said and done. I went to Mainline Auto and bought ac delco plugs and wires. What other tune-up items would you consider on a car with a 100K miles? Everything on the car is stock. Im not looking for speed or performance, just for the car to run as its supposed too.
