GR2 or AGX?

looking at new suspension options. Should I go with the GR2 or AGX's ? pros/cons of each?

well, the agx's are more expensive for a reason. most people seem happy with them and the adjustable settings.

i went with AGX, and i dont think it was really worth it. i thought my ride quality would go up a little bit over my stockers with 70,000 miles on them. i was wrong. RQ is about the same. as far as putting them on 4 and pounding the pavement i really havent done so yet. maybe my opinion will change one i do so.

I had the same issue last year. I was pretty much told by others in the car scene locally that unless you are going to drop it, avoid the AGX's. I went with the GR2's and have had no complaints.

im planning on dropping it, eventually, its a very gradual process for me . the only reason i ask is there is a good auction on ebay for 4 AGXs, but for a little less i can get GR2s. The only reason I ask now is it sounds like my front L. strut is starting to go bad

I just did the GR-2s mainly because I was using the H&Rs....they drop below the recommended level for the AGXs and I didnt want to have to replace them anytime soon. $500+ would be a bit much for me to having to be replacing anytime soon.

^ H&R's are stiffer and lower springs than stock though, and even lower than Eibachs, so you need a stiffer strut. Regardless of what they say the "recommended" level is, it's not going to hurt the strut any lowering the car as long as you have the proper bump stops. It might make your GR2's wear out faster though using them with H&R's because GR2's aren't designed for stiffer springs.

I know. And it is kinda funny because I was the guy who started the whole "lets get them to make AGXs thing"...and I would have liked to do them. But I figure that since the AGXs are pricey and they would get beaten up pretty bad out here (Vegas is COVERED in speedbumps and road construction), I would rather not put on something nice. The GR-2s will wear out but have a long warranty and I can always do the better ones in the future or do the Koni thing. By the time I spent money on new mounts, struts, springs and my heavily discounted Baer 13" brake kit, the AGXs were pushing my budget.

If i remember right, i got my gr2's for something like 230 shipped. These are nearly 200 more. I guess it depends on how much the adjustability feature means to you.

How do you like the GR2s?
I'm thinking of replacing my struts/springs as part of 100k mile maintenance among other things.

Looking for ride quality -.-
Also, are the stock springs/struts branded somewhere specifically?
I got my vehicle with 88k on it, and I doubt they've ever been changed.
I'm just wondering if there's an easy way to check.

I like the GR2's. I think they are a little stiffer than factory. I replaced mine at about 80K. I thought about the AGX's, but for one thing they were twice as much as the GR2's.

I will say that if you want your struts to remain in a similar condition two years from install date than AGX's should hold up better than GR2's...

Ive been swapping the setting from 1-4 and like the bump absorbsion on setting 1... Setting 4 takes the bump and jolts the car more, but the car stays planted and doesnt squish as much.. Personally I like being able to swap the settings.. My GR2's were fine for about a year and a half, than they went downhill fast..

Well, technically since the H&Rs drop 1.7 inches, they are classified as "too low" for any of the dampers/struts out there. KYB recommends no more than a 1.5" drop for their struts. The guys at KYB recommend Eibach with either the AGX or GR-2 because Eibach has only a 1.2 and 1.3 inch drop. They are the most conservative drop and would be in spec. with any strut manufacturer.

Because of the better parts, the AGXs would likely last longer and would tolerate lowering springs the best however the are twice the price when compared to GR-2s. Koni yellows can be adapted and they would likely outlive any other strut available to us....though their drop recommendations are the same, people beat on Konis hard and they last VERY well.


Like I said, I ended up doing H&Rs and getting some GR-2s to take the abuse until I can figure out what I really want to do.

Yeah, to get anything that really worked "perfect" with H&R's or any drop springs, you'd have to get shortened struts. You'd could probably have that done to the koni inserts (shorten the shaft) and possibly custom valving too. As with anything though, getting something like that for the best performance will have to be custom and will cost more $$$.
