there is a crappy little dealership near my g/f's house that sells used cars. IT sells like really crappy dirty cheap cars but surprisingly the guy has 3..count em 3! skylines! They are the early models between 1990-1993 but man...they are skylines. Im gunna try and take a pic this week and post it....maybe even enquire as to how much they are (id never buy one cause its right hand drive!)....but the point is, skylines are out there in N/A....just not R34's

I'd rock a right hand drive car. Would take a while to get used to, but it'd still be interesting as hell to drive.

MotoRex was charged with federal crimes and shut down because they were importing these cars and FAKING VIN numbers and vehicle registrations. Needless to say, they are still in deep sh1t because their court cases have not been heard. A guy on the RX7 board from Virginia knew the next place in line for the U.S. who could impot them, and was doing it legally, however, the U.S. has disallowed any importation of vehicles that do not meet U.S. specs. Absolutely no Skyline models, Silvia's, J-spec Supra's, J-spec RX7's, J-spec 300zx's can be imported.

The only way around this is to have the car sent in MANY pieces and then reassembled once in the U.S. and labeled a kit car. An empty chassis still won't cut it.

sorry if I sound like an idiot

but I just don't get it, I understand not letting a car in if it doesn't meet regulations, etc

but what's waiting 15 years gonna change?
If a car doesn't meet regulations now, I'm pretty sure definitely it won't 15 years from now

Why would they outlaw importing just a chassis? Too many damn regulations in this country

What I wanna know is, why did they take the wheels off and have them sitting on wood blocks on those flat bed trucks?

Anyway, I read some stuff about motorex in some magazines a long while back when they got shut down. Supposedly they were importing the cars and modifying them to meet US emissions and safety standards then getting new VIN's for them and saying they could be legally registered. Ends up they weren't and the cars were not legal. Anyone who had one already could keep it, but no more R34's were going to be allowed to be imported. Now, supposedly at this time they said they were still going to allow some importation of skylines, but only the older R32 and R33 models, and the only company doing it was RB motoring. If that has since changed and they are not allowing any importation at all, I haven't heard.

As for the lone silvia in that group, even though it's basically the same as a 240sx with different tail lights, they have never been legal for importation except for display or off road use only (racing). They still don't meet the front bumper requirements and they have a different engine that doesn't comply with emissions (even though everyone swaps them into 240's ).

Last I heard, R33's have since been removed. Yes, at one time they were the only import allowed. Hence why whenever you saw a Skyline in the U.S. it was an R33. But they figured out they are no different than any of the other Skyline's that were disallowed (aside from your typical physical changes of a car's model year).

EDIT: Searched the info and found out more reasoning why. MotoRex paid to get the U.S. crash testing done for R33s. Where they got into trouble was that they were then passing R32s and R34s off as R33s because the feds had no clue what they were. Eventually they caught on and this is where the hammer dropped. You can still import Skyline's if you know the right place, but it will cost you. This guy in this thread obviously tried to bring them in "as is", hence they got nabbed.

No because they never were originally offered in US issued cars.

The SR20DE on the other hand WAS found in some cars here. THe turbo version was not.
